We had a wonderful time volunteering at the Massachusetts Treasure Hunting Association's booth on Sunday at the Topsfield Fair. Our shift was scheduled for 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, but we enjoyed ourselves so much that we stayed an extra hour!
The little kids were adorable and absolutely loved the sandbox activity, especially discovering foreign coins and learning about the countries they came from.
And the older kids and adults were genuinely fascinated by the relic display. You could see their eyes light up at the sight of a U.S. (Union) belt buckle, a King George III halfpenny (1788), and many other artifacts with the remarkable stories behind them.
Naturally, I’m biased, but I truly believe the MTHA exhibit is one of the best things at the fair. There’s a depth and authenticity to it that goes beyond the oversized plush toys and pumpkins. It adds a tangible layer of discovery to America’s oldest agricultural fair and brings history to life for visitors of all ages.
We’re already looking forward to next year!
