❄️ IS YOUR HOME LOSING HEAT THROUGH THE ATTIC?

Cold Idaho weather is right around the corner, and one of the biggest places your home can lose heat is through an underinsulated attic.

Before winter arrives, take a few minutes to check:

✔️ Is your attic insulation evenly distributed?
✔️ Are there bare spots or areas where insulation is missing?
✔️ Has insulation been compressed or disturbed?
✔️ Do you notice dark stains that could indicate air leaks?
✔️ Are there signs of moisture or roof leaks?

💡 HOMEOWNER TIP:

If you can easily see the tops of your attic floor joists above the insulation, there's a good chance your attic could benefit from additional insulation.

Proper insulation and air sealing can help lower heating bills, improve comfort, and reduce heat loss during Idaho's cold winters.

⚠️ Never cover attic ventilation openings, and avoid disturbing insulation that may contain asbestos.

We’re looking for someone experienced with bathroom remodels, fixture relocation, tubs/showers, drain work, and crawlspace access.
Must be:
- Properly licensed and insured
- Reliable and responsive
- Comfortable working as a subcontractor
- Able to coordinate well with a GC and other trades
- Interested in ongoing remodel work, not just one project

We’re looking for reliable, professional SUBCONTRACTORS interested in ongoing project work as we continue to grow.

We are specifically looking for:

• Framing / carpentry
• Drywall & texture
• Painting
• Flooring
• Concrete / masonry
• Roofing / siding
• Electrical
• Plumbing
• HVAC
• Excavation / dirt work
• Fencing / decks
• Tile
• Cabinets / countertops
• Other skilled trades

A quick clarification: We received a lot of responses on our last post from general contractors. We respect other GCs, but what we are primarily looking for here are tradespeople and subcontracting crews who understand the subcontractor relationship.

That means Sawtera contracts the project, manages the customer and coordinates the job, and we hire qualified subs to complete specific scopes of work.

We’re looking for subs who:

✅ Show up when they say they will
✅ Communicate well
✅ Carry appropriate licensing/registration and insurance where required
✅ Take pride in their work
✅ Can provide clear bids for a defined scope
✅ Understand that subcontractor pricing needs to leave room for the GC who is selling, managing, coordinating and standing behind the overall project

We are not looking for the cheapest person. We want good people at fair, sustainable subcontractor pricing so we can build long-term working relationships and keep sending work your way.

🍂 CHECK FOR WOOD ROT BEFORE WINTER

Fall is a great time to walk around your home and look for wood that's starting to deteriorate before another wet winter makes it worse.

Pay special attention to:

✔️ Fascia and trim along the roofline
✔️ Wood around windows and exterior doors
✔️ Deck boards, stairs, and railings
✔️ Fence posts and boards near the ground
✔️ Areas where water regularly splashes or collects

Quick test: gently press suspicious areas with a screwdriver. If the wood feels soft, spongy, or easily flakes apart, moisture may already be causing rot.

Replacing a small damaged section now is usually much easier than waiting until the damage spreads.

Looking for an individual with epoxy flooring experience to come help me on an upcoming project.

I am not looking to hire an epoxy company or subcontract the job out. I’m looking for someone I can hire to work alongside me who already has experience with floor prep, mixing, pouring, and applying epoxy.

This could turn into steady work for the right person if you also have construction/remodeling skills.

Treasure Valley area. Pay will be negotiated based on experience.

❄️ DON’T WAIT FOR THE FIRST FREEZE

One of the easiest fall maintenance jobs can also prevent a surprisingly expensive repair: check your outdoor faucets and plumbing before freezing temperatures arrive.

Before winter:

✔️ Disconnect garden hoses from outdoor faucets
✔️ Check hose bibs for drips or leaks
✔️ Make sure frost-free faucets are working properly
✔️ Drain irrigation or exposed water lines that require winterization
✔️ Know where your home's main water shutoff is before you actually need it

A frozen pipe can turn a small maintenance item into water damage, drywall repairs, and a much bigger bill.

A few minutes of prevention this fall can save a lot of trouble this winter.
