💦 Is your sprinkler system actually putting down enough water?

Just because your sprinkler is running doesn’t mean your lawn is getting the water it needs! 🌱💧

One of the easiest ways to find out how much water your irrigation system is REALLY putting down is with a simple catch-can test. You can use irrigation measuring cups or even something as simple as a tuna can.

Here’s what to remember:

💧 Aim for about 1" of water per week during normal conditions.
💧 Different sprinkler heads can put out VERY different amounts of water.
💧 Run your system for 10 minutes, measure what you collected, and adjust your run time based on the results.
💧 If you have brown spots, place your measuring cup directly in that area to see if it’s receiving enough water.
💧 Every yard is different! Rocky or compacted soil can affect how quickly water soaks in.
💧 Water early in the morning or late at night for better absorption and less evaporation.
💧 During extreme Texas heat, your lawn may need closer to 1.5" per week, which may mean splitting your watering across 3 days.

🌿 The biggest takeaway: Don't guess—measure! Your sprinkler system may be putting out much more (or much less) water than you think.

Save this for the next time you adjust your sprinkler schedule! 📌💦

🌱 Is your lawn feeling a little… spongy? 👀

You might be dealing with thatch buildup! Thatch is a layer of dead grass, roots, and organic material that builds up between the soil and the grass blades. A little is normal, but too much can prevent water, nutrients, and treatments from reaching the soil where they’re needed most.

So, what can you do about it? 🌱
If you notice excessive thatch, rake the area really well to break up and remove the buildup, then bag up and throw away the dead grass and debris that comes up. Core aeration can also help improve water and nutrient movement into the soil.

A healthy lawn starts from the ground up! 👏🌱
