💚 NATIONAL GRIEF AWARENESS DAY 💚
Grief isn't something that only comes from losing someone we love. Loss can take many forms — the death of a loved one or beloved pet, divorce, a chronic illness, the loss of a job, a friendship ending, a major life change, or even the loss of the life we thought we were going to have.
And sometimes, we simply don't know what to say to someone who is hurting. So today, we wanted to share a few simple ways we can show up for the people we care about. ❤️
🌿 1. BE PRESENT.
You don't have to have the right words. Sometimes sitting beside someone, making a phone call, or simply saying “I'm here” means more than you realize.
👂 2. LISTEN — DON'T TRY TO FIX IT.
Let them talk. Let them cry. Let them be angry, confused or quiet. You don't need to make it better — you just need to let them know they don't have to carry it alone.
🥘 3. OFFER SOMETHING SPECIFIC.
Instead of saying “Let me know if you need anything,” try something more tangible:
“Can I bring you dinner?”
“Can I run an errand for you?”
“Would you like me to come sit with you?”
Small acts of kindness can make an enormous difference.
📱 4. KEEP CHECKING IN.
The world often rallies around someone immediately after a loss — and then life moves on. Grief doesn't work that way. Check in next week. Next month. On birthdays, anniversaries and difficult days. A simple “I've been thinking about you” can mean everything.
💚 A FEW MORE WAYS TO HELP:
• Don't be afraid to mention the person or pet they've lost.
• Avoid saying “everything happens for a reason” unless you know that is comforting to them.
• Respect that everyone grieves differently.
• Invite them to do something simple — a walk, coffee, dinner or even just sitting outside.
• Be patient. There is no expiration date on grief.
• Remember that sometimes quiet companionship is more helpful than advice.
At WoodChuckers, we know that life isn't always easy, and loss touches every one of us. We may not have the perfect words, but we believe in showing up, caring for one another and reminding people that they are not alone. 🌿💚
If you're going through a loss right now, please be gentle with yourself. And if you know someone who is hurting, maybe today is a good day to reach out. ❤️
Who is someone you can check on today? Tag them, send them a text, or simply let them know you're thinking about them.
