Update on our chimney reinforcement project at 40 Newton. Due to the undersized beams installed in the 30s, the weight of the 60,000 pound chimney began to strain the original I beams after 80 plus years. So, OBLF fabricated a W14x53/ MC 10x41.1 beam weighing 2,700lbs to install between the existing beams. We had to remove a window and part of the porch roof to bring the H-beam in level and in position to slide underneath the chimney and between the two existing beams. Hats off to Steel Giraffe LLC, Old Bristol Line Fabrication, Kettelle Building Movers, Sharpe Construction, Geisser Engineering, and the SBI Newton crew for making this a success. Video coming soon!
