Your garage door opener does NOT actually lift your garage door. 👀

That’s the job of the spring system.

When a garage door is properly balanced, the springs carry most of the door’s weight and the opener simply guides it up and down. When springs are worn, improperly sized, or the door is out of balance, your opener may be forced to work much harder than it was designed to.

That can lead to premature opener wear — and eventually a door that won’t open when you need it.

Quick test: With the door closed, disconnect the opener and carefully lift the door manually. A properly balanced door should move relatively easily and stay reasonably in place around the halfway point.

If it feels extremely heavy, shoots upward, or won’t stay put, it’s worth having the system checked.
