Hours, for us, is a suggestion. We try hard to be here for folks with varying schedules, and evening or weekday availability.

A bit of an emotional day—but thinking of you, Nan, on your birthday. Missing you so much.

My grandmother taught me everything I know about perennial gardening, (as well as many other artistic endeavors). She was active in her garden club, but especially excelled in taking care of her family. She made the absolute best black raspberry pies in the world, and every birthday was treated as a National Holiday in our family. Paired with my grandfathers love of Conservation and nature, it’s no wonder my love of plants spiraled into growing a nursery. Happy Birthday, Nan. We love ya—I’ll be planting a Gingko tree in your honor.

I’ll be potting up plants, & propagating the last batch of baby plants for the season. Now is the time to plant your trees, shrubs, and perennials so they may establish before winter! Dogwoods are selling down fast now, so folks can plant now & enjoy spring blooms, but we still have white, and a few pink left for $35.
I’m here to answer questions, and help you choose the right plants for your landscape. We even have shrubs and trees that show off beautiful color in the dead of winter! Ask me about Scarlet Curls Willow, Coral Bark Japanese Maples, and Yellow Twig Dogwoods for winter interest.

A big shout out to Serena Rose at Lost Leaf Artistry, for making these beautiful bonsai pots for me! I love them so much, I opted to use them for an indoor take on the art of koshomono, (using plants, ferns, grasses to create a natural garden in a natural bowl, often accompanied by a nearby bonsai) until I can begin collecting the right plants for starting indoor bonsai on my own. If you aren’t familiar with her pottery, give her a follow on facebook. She has some of her work over at the Fragrant Mushroom, and a booth at the Purple Iris.

We are open today, August 22nd! Come on out and see us. We have so many shrubs, trees, and perennials here, it’s truly a joy to browse and watch all the pollinators flutter by.
We have everything from redwoods and weeping willows to sedums and prairie rudbeckia.

We also wish to take time to thank every single one of you who have taken the time to come out and shop, and to spread the word about our business. We appreciate each and every one of you so much! Truly, we could not be making plans to grow for next year without your support. Every plant we sell helps our small family succeed in the struggles to start a business like this one, where we are also battling weather and temps. I have met so many wonderful people, and appreciate new, and return visits so much. We think of each of you as new friends. Thank you, for supporting local, small businesses like ours.

Good morning, GREEN MARKET DAY!
4-7pm Sparta, y’all come out & say hi.

Soooo much beautiful color here at the Lucky Nickel today, and the bumbles are so happy!

We are here at the nursery this morning, loading the trailer at around 11:30/noon, to head on over to the Sparta Green Market, 4-7pm. We have a new perennial beginning to bloom, one I grew from seed myself, and the flowers are just stunning. I’m so excited to see this flower! Verbascum, Shades of Summer.

SATURDAY Aug 22 we will be open at 9am at the nursery, and we have a great variety of trees, shrubs and perennials to offer. Remember, now is the time to plant for autumn establishment, and spring enjoyment!
