Q: There is paint on one of my sprinkler heads. Does it need to be replaced?
A: Yes. The standard requires that a sprinkler head with paint on it has to be replaced. This applies to all sprinkler head parts, including cover plates (also known as escutcheon plates.) Not only does paint on a sprinkler void its warranty, it also acts as a protective barrier that reduces effectiveness, since it may not detect the change in temperature required for activation.
