I savor summer. The smell of the grill, long days at the pool, sticky fingers wrapped around waffle cones dripping with ice cream, armloads of fresh produce and flowers. It's the best.

The first tell of fall comes with the hydrangeas. They entered summer with delicate white petals that gave way to a brilliant punch of pink, and now they've deepened into sweetest shade of mauve, ushering in September days.

If at first you don't succeed, try try try again!

We're typically pretty good at growing things, and thought we would move and hop right back into our typical gardening routine. Boy, were we wrong! We forgot that it took us fifteen years to get where we were at the acre to build beautiful soil and tackle the w**d pressure.

We started out with a good soil base here, but weather, w**d pressure, rabbits, and kids have all made our attempt at gardening this summer pretty nuts! We planted and replanted, and finally decided to take a step back and set ourselves up well for next season. We pulled w**ds and laid down thick black landscape farbric. Our favorite way to start new beds is to use solarization. The sun beats down on the black fabric, makes the w**ds sprout, and then kills them. It takes a lot of patience to let it sit for months, but we'll be rewarded next March with a great w**d free starting point!

The vision is there, so now it's just working towards it! What do you hope to see from us next year?

We spent yesterday digging up and dividing our iris patch to spread these purple beauties around the property. The end of August/ beginning of September is a great time to divide irises because it gives them enough time to establish their roots before the first frost.

The little girls never pass up a ride in the wheel barrel or a chance to dig in the dirt! It was slow going with these two silly girls, but so fun!

One of the best unexpected adventures has been searching thrift shops, garage sales, and marketplace for items for the venue. We were SO excited to find 100 white wooden chairs! Our little ones also had the best time checking out the chairs, and Roe pulled her best Goldilocks, trying them out until she found one that was just right!

I am glad James did the heavy lifting and let me run around chasing kids and taking photos 😂

I am looking forward to styling the venue and ceremony space and sharing photos soon!
