Here's what most homeowners don't realize: you can throw premium seed, expensive fertilizer, and perfect treatments at your lawn-and it'll still struggle if your soil pH is off.

Why? Because soil pH controls nutrient availability. Acidic soil (below 6.0) locks up phosphorus and potassium. Alkaline soil (above 7.5) traps iron and manganese. Your lawn literally can't access what you're feeding it.

This is why we always start with soil testing. It's not an upsell-it's the diagnostic truth. When you know your pH, you know exactly what your lawn needs to thrive.

Don't guess. Test first. Transform second. That's the agronomy difference.

Ready to unlock your lawn's potential? DM us about soil testing-let's get your pH dialed in.

NOT A SPRAY-AND-PRAY LAWN SERVICE.

Applying the same products to every lawn may be convenient, but it is not a professional diagnosis. Different turf problems can require very different corrections—and treating the wrong problem can waste time, waste money, or place additional stress on the lawn.

At Blackman & Sons, we follow a more deliberate process:

Inspect. Sample. Analyze. Correct.

Our $195 Professional Agronomic Turf Consultation includes:

✓ A detailed on-site turf and w**d assessment
✓ Soil-sample collection and laboratory analysis
✓ Review of irrigation, drainage, sunlight, and visible compaction
✓ Identification of likely contributing conditions
✓ Interpretation of the soil-analysis results
✓ A written, prioritized turf-correction plan

The full $195 consultation fee is credited toward qualifying corrective work of $1,500 or more approved within 30 days.

This service is designed for homeowners seeking a comprehensive corrective plan—not simply another one-time w**d spray or generalized lawn treatment.

Recommendations are informed by NC State Extension turf research, site-specific observations, and laboratory soil data.

Serving homeowners throughout Cumberland County. Veteran-owned and operated.

STOP GUESSING. START WITH THE SOIL.

Thin turf, stubborn w**ds, weak color, and uneven growth are not always caused by the same problem. Before applying more fertilizer, lime, seed, or w**d control, it helps to understand what is actually happening in the soil and throughout the property.

Blackman & Sons combines professional site evaluation with laboratory soil analysis to develop a corrective plan based on your lawn’s actual conditions—not guesswork.

Our $195 Professional Agronomic Turf Consultation includes:

✓ On-site turf and w**d assessment
✓ Soil-sample collection and laboratory analysis
✓ Evaluation of soil pH and nutrient conditions
✓ Review of irrigation, drainage, sunlight, and visible compaction
✓ Interpretation of the laboratory findings
✓ A written, prioritized corrective plan

The full $195 consultation fee is credited toward qualifying corrective work of $1,500 or more approved within 30 days.

Recommendations are informed by NC State Extension turf research, laboratory soil data, and the specific conditions present on your property.

A few w**ds, thin areas, weak color, or bare spots may be early signs of a larger soil or turf problem. Applying another product without identifying the cause can waste money and make the correction harder.

Blackman & Sons begins with diagnosis—not a spray-and-pray treatment.

✓ On-site turf and w**d assessment
✓ Soil-sample collection and laboratory analysis

When the rain comes down, that’s when you see what people are really made of.

This weekend, our team at Blackman & Sons Lawns and Landscapes had the privilege of joining forces with some incredible community partners to help spread mulch on the Veggies for Vets nature trail at Myrover-Reese Fellowship Homes on Wilkes Road in Fayetteville.

A special shoutout to the Cape Fear Colts crew who showed up, dug in, got wet, got muddy, and kept moving. No excuses. No backing down. Just grit, teamwork, and a whole lot of heart.

This is more than mulch installation. This is community service. This is veteran support. This is Fayetteville showing up for Fayetteville.

We’re proud to stand beside Veggies for Vets, Myrover-Reese Fellowship Homes, and the partners helping create a healthier, more peaceful outdoor space for veterans, residents, and the people they serve.

Rain or shine, we’re here for it.

🔥 NC Drought Conditions Are Rising — Protect Your Lawn Before It’s Too Late

The latest drought monitor shows moderate to severe drought spreading across North Carolina, including Fayetteville, Hope Mills, and Vander.

If your lawn isn’t properly managed right now, you’ll start to see:

• Browning and thinning grass
• Increased w**ds (crabgrass, spurge, nutsedge)
• Dry, compacted soil that won’t hold nutrients
• Expensive recovery costs later in the season

👉 This is where most homeowners fall behind — waiting too long to act.

At Blackman & Sons Lawns and Landscapes, we specialize in drought-resistant lawn care and irrigation solutions in Fayetteville, NC using NC State Extension-based turf management practices.

Our Services Include:

✔ Irrigation system installation & repair (Fayetteville, NC)
✔ Lawn watering optimization for Bermuda & Centipede grass
✔ Soil testing & pH correction (NCDA&CS backed)
✔ Fertilization programs designed for drought conditions
✔ W**d control & turf recovery plans

💡 A properly managed lawn uses less water, stays greener longer, and resists drought stress.

🌱🎖️ From the Army to Agriculture — and Building Something Bigger

I don’t talk about this enough, but Blackman & Sons Lawns and Landscapes wouldn’t exist without the Soldiers to Agriculture (STAG) Program.

Today, I’m proud to be part of a community that supports growth, service, and local impact—and I want more veterans to have that same opportunity.

🌱 Exciting Opportunity for Our Local Agriculture & Horticulture Community! 🌱

At Blackman & Sons Lawns & Landscapes, we’re proud to work alongside organizations that strengthen agriculture, horticulture, and land stewardship here in Cumberland County and the greater Fayetteville area. One of the most valuable resources our community has is the incredible team at the NC Cooperative Extension and the Cumberland County Agriculture Center.

The Extension office has long been a pillar of education and support for farmers, landscapers, horticulturists, and homeowners alike. From Master Gardener programs to soil science education, turfgrass management, crop production, and sustainable agriculture, they help ensure our community has access to research-based knowledge straight from North Carolina State University.

Now they’re exploring the possibility of hosting a Certified Plant Professional (CPP) training program right here in Cumberland County.

This certification is a fantastic opportunity for:

• Landscapers & lawn care professionals
• Nursery and garden center employees
• Farmers and growers
• Master Gardeners
• Anyone passionate about horticulture, plant science, and agriculture

The Certified Plant Professional program helps deepen knowledge of plant identification, soils, plant health, pest management, and horticultural best practices. Programs like this strengthen the entire local green industry here in Fayetteville, Vander, Hope Mills, Spring Lake, and across Cumberland County.

We’ve always appreciated the partnership and support from the Extension service, and we’re proud to help promote their work whenever possible. Their mission to educate and empower our community directly supports businesses like ours and the many farmers and growers throughout the region. "A rising tide raises all ships in the harbor."

Proud to support the Extension Master Gardener Program here in Cumberland County, NC 🌱

As a certified Extension Master Gardener Volunteer, I can personally say this program is one of the most credible, science-based horticultural education pathways available to homeowners, volunteers, and green-industry professionals in North Carolina.

The Master Gardener Program is rooted in NC State Cooperative Extension research, hands-on training, and community service—covering turfgrass management, soil science, plant pathology, entomology, landscape design, and sustainable gardening practices specific to our Coastal Plain conditions.

If you’re passionate about gardening, lawns, landscapes, soil health, native plants, or community education, this is an outstanding opportunity to learn, serve, and grow—without pressure or obligation.

At Blackman & Sons Lawns and Landscapes, we believe in doing things the right way:

✔ Data-driven
✔ Research-backed
✔ Environmentally responsible
✔ Locally informed

Programs like this are exactly why Cumberland County continues to raise the bar for professional landscaping, turf management, and homeowner education.

If you’ve ever considered becoming a Master Gardener—or just want to learn more—this interest meeting is a great first step.
