There are so many ways to feed a garden!

I feed my community gardens without chemicals or fertilizers.

Just compost and compost tea I discreetly make in my tiny townhouse yard.

(Food scrap composting only.
No yard waste or browns.)

Tell me what is your routine?

Do you compost your food scraps?

How long does it take for food scraps to turn into compost?

I get this question a lot.

Let’s look at a real life system for an answer!

If you joined me on July 25 at Nature’s Haven for the bokashi composting demonstration, this is the soil factory that we built together.

I brought it home, kept it in the front entryway and left it go undisturbed for 5 weeks to do its thing.

(Tip: I never turn my bokashi compost systems!)

In just 5 weeks, most of the fermented food scraps are gone with the exception of some bones, banana peel tops, corn on the cob, and some eggshells.

Just light, fluffy rejuvenated soil.

Ready to go to the garden!

And if you are new here - Hi! I’m Jen!

I’m passionate about helping backyard and community gardeners to discreetly compost your food scraps and food waste so you can feed your gardens naturally without relying on organic or synthetic fertilizers!

Made this delicious Thai basil cucumber spritzer for a garden club potluck today.

Thai basil simple syrup, juiced cucumbers, some lime juice, and seltzer.

Making simple syrup has always been on the ā€œone dayā€ list. Happy to check that one off!

Can’t believe how easy it was! (Almost embarrassed to admit it’s my first time…) 😳

Now enjoying a refreshed version of it at home on the deck.

Little splash of gin is exactly what it needs on a warm evening like tonight!

Cheers to homemade cocktails on warm summer evenings! šŸ¹

Do you have a favorite drink you make from your garden?
