Florida Panhandle neighbors: a quick hurricane-prep reminder.

As of the National Hurricane Center's October 7, 4 a.m. CDT advisory, Tropical Storm Isaias is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane and approach the northern Gulf Coast Friday, October 9. Heavy rain and flooding are possible, including in the Florida Panhandle. The track and local impacts can change, so check the latest forecast and your local emergency officials' updates.

Before conditions worsen:
* Stock water, nonperishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries and phone chargers. Include pet supplies, important paperwork and cash.
* Bring in loose outdoor items, charge devices and make sure everyone knows the evacuation plan, including where pets will go.
* Keep copies of IDs, insurance documents and important records in a waterproof container or secure digital backup. If safe, take photos of your home and belongings before the storm. Never delay evacuation for photos or paperwork.
* Check on neighbors who may need help getting ready.

Follow evacuation orders. Never walk or drive through floodwater, and stay away from downed power lines. After the storm, photograph any damage only when it is safe. Don't climb onto a damaged roof.

What's one useful item or preparation step people often forget?

Nothing surprising here. Around the country insurance companies with big pockets collect premiums, and then when there is a loss, they delay, underpay, deny, put you thru hoops, switch adjusters 5 times, all with the knowledge that in many cases they will wear down the insured.

Good to see the county taking action, I guess the carriers didn't pay off the local politicians.

Los Angeles County has filed a lawsuit against State Farm, alleging the insurer mishandled claims stemming from the Eaton and Palisades wildfires through delays, denials and underpayments.
