There's just something about bringing an old space back to life that makes us happy ☺️.

This backyard in Old Beechwold, OH (suburb of Columbus) had so much potential, and our clients knew it.

The space lacked personality and atmosphere. It was not inviting and rarely used.

Now, the personality of the exterior of the home matches the personality inside and that of the homeowners.

Check out the pergola which we repurposed from a 100+ year old barn in Eastern Ohio. It's built on natural limestone columns shaped to match the architecture of the home and match the stonework that is prevalent in the Old Beechwold area.

How about the view over the gas powered fire feature.

Custom travertine coping was used to disguise the white liner cap on the pool.

As the sun drops, the accent and landscape lighting takes over making the space not only feel intimate but functional at night.

The front of the home has just as much personality. The Pennsylvania bluestone walkway is inviting and provides great contrast to the landscaping and brick texture of the home.

So much to love here 😍 and talk about. Built in conversation starters all over.

What a transformation. Inspired by time spent in Cabo, this backyard oasis in Springboro, OH was designed with a resort feel in mind. We aimed to increase family time together, maximize the yard and make the space feel intimate and private.

We gave special attention to lighting and sound. At night, the lighting makes the space feel inviting and warm. The built in sound is directional, meaning it’s heard only where we want it. Perfect for enjoying music without disturbing the neighbors.

The cedar pergola provides a shaded area to cool off on those hot summer days and the lounging area is positioned perfectly for time in the sun.

The cement deck is a special blend that we designed to give a sandy finish. We intentionally left out the troweled edges and joints to keep a natural look.

We didn’t cut any corners. In fact, notice every corner was custom made including the pool coping corners, corner step treads and corner Indiana limestone wall caps.

The travertine used on the upper patio, step treads and pool coping lends to a timeless design both in aesthetics and longevity.

This project was a lot of fun and required extreme attention to detail. Design challenges included making the entire property cohesive and flowing from one space to the next. Each of the prior property owners added their own flare and addition to the backyard - we had to revise everything to make it match the style and era of the home. Be sure to check out the before picture of the backyard.

The 70+ year old pool leaked and ran on outdated equipment. Instead of repairing the pool, a new pool was built inside of the old pool.

We replaced the asphalt driveway with pavers. We recommended a bituminous asphalt setting bed which includes a 5" thick rebar reinforced concrete base, 1" of asphalt over the concrete and then the pavers set in an asphalt mastic on top of the asphalt. This type of installation is a bit more expensive, but will last a very long time. Most of our commercial installations are built this way.

The home owner was a graduate of University of Dayton. The pavers we used on the driveway are the same custom color blend brick used on all the paver walks at University of Dayton. We asked Whitacre Greer, the paver manufacturer, if they could make these pavers custom in the UD color and they obliged.
