Every home has a story, and sometimes the best design move isn’t picking something brand new. It’s listening to what’s already there. 🧡
When we started this primary bath remodel, the original 1970s bathroom was wrapped in this incredible orange and navy patterned tile, on the vanity backsplash and running the full length of the shower wall. It was dated, sure, but it had so much personality. Instead of tearing it out and starting from zero, we made a decision that changed the whole direction of the project: we would let that vintage tile help inspire the new design, rather than erase it.
The result is a shower niche featuring the actual original tile, restored and given a place of honor in the new design. We paired it with a moody navy tile, warm cabinetry, and brushed brass fixtures that all speak the same design language as that funky 70s original. It’s a full circle moment. The bones of this home told us what direction to go, we just gave it a modern voice.
This is one of my favorite parts of remodeling older homes. You’re not just installing new materials, you’re honoring what came before while making it work for how people live today.
