Make sure your 3/8 reveal is dialed in.

That subtle waviness you see in metal panels during the hottest part of the day? That is oil canning.

It happens when temperatures fluctuate and metal expands as atoms vibrate and push slightly farther apart. When the temperature drops back to baseline, the metal settles again, sometimes differently than when it was first installed.

This is why timing and technique matter.
Season of install.
Time of day. Panel width.
Structural support.
All of it plays a role.

In the photo shown, the fascia is unusually wide, which makes the oil canning more pronounced. Wider, flat stretches of metal are more susceptible to visible movement. We typically recommend narrower fascia profiles with strategic bends added on a metal brake. Those angles increase rigidity and help resist that bubbling effect.

Metal moves. Good fabrication plans for it.
