WHAT ARE YOU REALLY PAYING FOR WHEN YOU HIRE A CONTRACTOR?
It’s about more than lumber, labor, and getting your project done.
It’s about the quality of service you receive when things don’t go exactly as planned.
This morning, I met with a customer to walk through their project and make sure everything was ready for drywall. We discovered some electrical wiring hanging below the floor joists, preventing the next phase of construction from moving forward as expected.
Could we have simply pointed fingers and said, “That’s not our job”?
Absolutely.
But that’s not how we believe a professional contractor should operate.
I ask our customer to contact the electrician they used, I explained the situation, and worked together to find a solution. Although we’ve never worked with this electrician before, we appreciate his willingness to step up and help get things back on track.
Our goal is to resolve the issue and keep the project moving forward by Monday.
HERE’S WHAT EVERY HOMEOWNER SHOULD EXPECT FROM THEIR CONTRACTOR:
✅ Communication: You deserve to know what’s happening with your project and what needs to happen next.
✅ Problem-solving: Construction doesn’t always go according to plan. You want a contractor who looks for solutions instead of excuses.
✅ Coordination: Your project involves multiple trades, and the work needs to come together properly to keep things moving.
✅ Accountability: When an issue arises, you deserve a professional who takes it seriously and works toward a resolution.
✅ Quality beyond the contract: A great contractor understands that their responsibility isn’t just about completing their own portion of the work. It’s about helping deliver a finished project that meets and even exceeds a customer’s expectations.
THE BOTTOM LINE: You’re not just paying someone to build. You’re investing in experience, professionalism, communication, and peace of mind.
When comparing contractors, don’t just compare the price. Compare what you’re getting for that price.
Because when challenges arise, the quality of your contractor becomes even more important.
