🌱 Pre-emergent tip for your lawn 🌱
Since I’ve had a lot of questions lately, I wanted to share some free advice to help everyone get ahead of w**ds this spring.
Pre-emergent timing is key in East Texas.
For our area, the ideal time to apply pre-emergent is around Valentine’s Day, and no later than the end of February. This is when soil temps start warming up and w**d seeds are getting ready to germinate.
Pre-emergents don’t kill existing w**ds—they help stop w**d seeds from sprouting. If you wait until w**ds are visible, it’s already too late for pre-emergent to do its job.
Granular vs. liquid
• Granular pre-emergent is the most common and easiest to find. It works well, but it must be watered in to activate.
• Liquid pre-emergent works better overall because it gets into the soil faster and more evenly and doesn’t rely on watering to activate—but it’s not always as accessible for homeowners.
You will also want to plan your application to avoid rain, as that could cause the pre emergent to wash away and waste your money! Careful planning is key and there are several qualified professionals in our area.
