The right addition should feel like it was always meant to be there.

A thoughtfully designed home addition is about more than adding square footage. It’s about understanding how the new space will connect to your existing home, how your family will use it, and how design decisions affect the construction plan and budget.

At Creekstone Design + Remodel, our design-build approach brings those conversations together early.

A basement in-law suite can give a parent privacy while keeping help nearby. It can also make every grocery trip depend on a flight of stairs if access gets treated as an afterthought.

Before choosing tile or fitting a kitchenette into the corner, decide how the space needs to work. Will it remain connected to the household or become a separate ADU? How will noise, laundry, moisture, daylight, and changing mobility affect the person living there?

We cover those decisions, along with the Portland basement conditions that can shape the project, in our new guide.

22 years ago, Creekstone Design + Remodel was built on the idea that exceptional remodeling begins with thoughtful design, careful planning, and craftsmanship that stands the test of time.

For founder John May, that journey started long before Creekstone.

In high school, he spent his free time learning from a remodeler. In college, he channeled his creativity into ambitious dorm room projects (including some custom wainscoting and floating shelf systems that were much harder to remove than they were to install!).

Even while building a successful consulting career and traveling across the country (and around the world), he continued designing and remodeling homes on the side.

Eventually, John decided to fully embrace his true passion. He left consulting to build a company dedicated to helping homeowners transform the way they live.

Today, Creekstone Design + Remodel proudly celebrates 22 years of creating beautiful, functional homes, first in Minneapolis, MN, and now throughout the Portland area.

To every homeowner who has trusted us with your home, every trade partner who’s worked alongside us, and every team member who’s been part of this journey: thank you. Your support has made these last two decades possible, and we’re excited for what’s ahead.

Here’s to the next chapter of creating homes designed for the way people truly live.

🏡 A low ceiling doesn't have to feel like a low ceiling.
A peek at the 12 tricks (and bonus info about what to do in kitchens and basements) our designers swear by:
Paint the ceiling lighter than the walls
Take kitchen cabinets all the way up (no soffit gap)
Swap pendants for flush-mount fixtures

🏡 Ever walked into someone's home addition and thought, "Huh, this room feels out of place"?

You're not imagining things. It's almost always a small handful of details that didn't get enough love: the trim, the floor heights, where the light hits. The kind of stuff homeowners hire us to obsess over so they don't have to.

Take a look at how we pull it off and find out about costs, timelines, and more info you need to know!

✨Would you guess this space used to be divided into three separate rooms?

Now it’s:
✔ 40+ feet of uninterrupted space
✔ No visible beams or posts
✔ A completely reimagined layout

The best part? It feels like it was always this way. Check out the project pics, how it came together, and the problem-solving it took to get there.
