It’s International Women's Day, and we’re here to celebrate inspiring women… Women in Ag.
First up: Briana Layfield
Innovator. Entrepreneur. Educator. USC graduate. She’s self-made. She’s expanding. She’s unstoppable. She’s a woman in ag.
She thought, “it’s coming.” And just like that, the idea of Ag-Bee, LLC was born.
Briana Layfield is the Founder & President of Ag-Bee LLC an aerial drone application company. A FarmX partner, Ag-Bee supports technology adoption to make farming easier and more effective.
She was among the first to be licensed as a commercial drone pilot, the first woman given the exemption for spray drone application in the U.S., and the sole founder of Ag-Bee. Briana now educates current and new generations of growers about the benefits of using technology in agriculture.
Briana doesn’t come from an agricultural background and had no real ties to the ag community when she started her journey. But after attending a drone conference in 2018, she noticed China was (almost nearly) the exclusive user of agricultural drone technology. She knew it was only a matter of time before the U.S. would adopt this technology and dug in with a big idea and bootstrap funding.
Her hope for the future of agtech? Closing the gap between growers and the adoption of in-field technology by building a bridge to help prepare and educate current and next-gen growers about the benefits and future of in-field automation.
Her advice to women in ag? Give it time and you’ll find your niche in the community. Be transparent, be forward, and don’t be easily offended. Get out in the field to stand beside growers and get to know them.
She's found the agricultural community to be one of the best to belong to, and couldn’t be happier with the relationships she’s made. In her words, she found her people...and she’ll see you in a city or field near you soon.
