Handrails / guardrails on stairs and decks should be able to withstand 200lbs of lateral force applied at the top rail.
This recent home inspection found badly rotted railings and deck boards in several areas , deferred maintenance is not only costly in the long run ….. it can be dangerous ….fix it when you see it you may be sparing someone an injury.

Just a reminder that this is a great time to clean your gutters and try to discharge the water 4 feet from your foundation if possible to help prevent moisture intrusion into the basement.
It’s also a good time to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries!

Recent Home inspection in Brockton , ma .
The A/c condensate drain line terminates directly above an exterior rated junction box and is causing corrosion of the box and microbial growth on the wall .
It’s a simple repair for now but left unchecked could pose a safety hazard ! Ideally it should discharge on the ground away from the foundation .

Water intrusion was suspected at the sidewall/roofline junction on this home and at another location where the deck was built on top of an old bulkhead roof .
Further inspection of the basement area confirmed hidden water damage.
Longtime moisture intrusion can wreak havoc on the structure .

This building exhibited cracking and displacement of the exterior brickwork , the Interior was remodeled about a year ago and the plaster and blue board also has atypical cracks as well as cracking and displacement of the concrete slab in the basement and walls
These clues as well as others were cause for concern to escalate our recommendation to have a structural engineer evaluate the structure .
This is the first time in 4 years I have had to make this recommendation .
