☀️ Solar Gate Opener Replacement in Ball Ground, GA
There's a lot of history behind this automatic driveway gate.
North Georgia Fence Company originally installed the BFT Ecosol/Kustos solar gate operator at this Ball Ground horse farm in 2016.
It served the property well for years. As the equipment aged, we returned a couple of times to make repairs and keep it operating.
About three months ago, the homeowner called us again. We thoroughly checked the system, but there was nothing to repair—the solar panel was producing sufficient power, the batteries were charged and everything worked properly while we were there.
Last week, we received another call.
This time the problem was clear: the BFT Kustos actuator motor had burned up.
After discussing the age and history of the equipment, we agreed it was time to stop investing in the old BFT system and replace it.
We installed a LiftMaster LA400 solar gate operator system with a 35-watt solar panel, KPW5 wireless keypad and LMRRUL retro-reflective photo eye.
One component didn't need replacing—the existing Diablo vehicle exit loop was still working properly, so we incorporated it into the new LiftMaster system.
That's an important part of how we approach automatic gate repair. We don't believe everything should automatically be replaced because one component fails. We evaluate the complete system, retain equipment that is still useful and recommend replacement when it makes better long-term sense.
There's also something especially satisfying about returning to a Ball Ground gate we originally automated in 2016 and still being the company the homeowner calls nearly a decade later.

The new homeowner at this property contacted North Georgia Fence Company about adding a CellGate Watchman W480 video intercom to a dual LiftMaster LA400 gate system we had previously installed for the former owner.

This one required considerably more than mounting an intercom.

The gate sits down in a gully near a river, surrounded by mountains and trees, so our first step was verifying that adequate cellular service was actually available at the entrance.

Once that checked out, we tackled the bigger challenge: power.

We located an electrical load center at the house and ran approximately 250 feet of underground wiring in conduit down a steep hill, through a rock-covered drainage area and beneath the asphalt driveway using an existing culvert.

That new electrical service allowed us to do two things:

• Power the new CellGate Watchman W480 video intercom
• Convert the existing LiftMaster LA400 gate operator from solar to AC power

The finished system gives the homeowner modern cellular video-intercom and gate access-control capabilities while upgrading the infrastructure behind the entire automatic entrance.

Projects like this are a good reminder that successful gate access control isn't just about choosing the equipment. Power, cellular coverage, terrain, drainage, existing gate equipment and installation planning all matter.

⚡ From lightning damage to a modern LiftMaster gate system in Ellijay!
We first automated this beautiful antique dual gate in 2020 using a BFT Phobos system. Because the older gate wasn't designed for gate operators, we reinforced each leaf with 2-inch angle iron while taking care not to detract from the gate's intricate appearance.
The system worked reliably for years—until a severe lightning event caused extensive damage to the automation equipment.
The homeowner called us back, and after inspecting the system we recommended upgrading rather than attempting to rebuild the damaged BFT installation piece by piece.
We installed a LiftMaster LA400 dual-gate system, added smartphone connectivity and upgraded the vehicle detection to a Cartell wireless exit sensor positioned farther up the driveway.
The antique gate remains. The technology operating it has moved forward considerably.

🏓 Another project completed in Blue Ridge, GA!

North Georgia Fence Company recently returned to this beautiful wooded property to install a 6-foot black vinyl-coated chain-link fence around a brand-new pickleball court.

The 40' × 60' concrete court includes two 10-foot double gates and is designed to serve double duty: pickleball now, with a basketball goal planned so guests can use the same space for basketball when the pickleball net is rolled aside.

Installing the fence around a finished concrete slab meant core-boring the concrete for the fence posts—one of those details you don't see in the finished project, but an important part of getting the installation right.

This was actually our second project at the property. In August, we installed approximately 450 feet of 4-foot black vinyl chain-link fencing through the surrounding wooded area to create a secure place for guests' dogs to run.

A beautiful subdivision entrance is only the beginning—the equipment behind it has to make the entrance work.
We recently completed the automatic gate and access-control installation for Marble Ridge, a new residential development in Jasper, GA.
The developer had already constructed an impressive entrance with dual gates, columns, and Marble Ridge signage. North Georgia Fence Company installed the automation and access-control system behind it.
The project included dual LiftMaster CSW200UL commercial swing gate operators, a LiftMaster CAPXS Smart Video Intercom, Starlink internet connectivity, and a Cartell wireless vehicle detector for automatic free exit.
We also installed the concrete operator pads, underground conduit and wiring, CAPXS pedestal, and gate operator drive arms.
The finished system combines a beautiful architectural entrance with commercial-grade gate automation and modern connected access control.

A pool safety fence doesn't have to hide the pool.
We recently installed this 5-foot black ornamental aluminum swimming pool enclosure for a homeowner in Jasper, GA.
We used Fortress Athens Residential aluminum fencing with two pedestrian gates. Each gate was equipped with MagnaLatch Top Pull safety latches and TruClose self-closing hinges.
The posts were set securely in concrete beside the pool deck, and no opening anywhere in the completed enclosure exceeded four inches.
What we particularly like about ornamental aluminum around a swimming pool is the visibility. The fence creates a defined safety barrier while still allowing the homeowners to enjoy the view of the pool and their beautiful new home.

This Ellijay homeowner was tired of spending his Sundays working on his automatic gate.
He already had a beautiful modern steel dual driveway gate, but the previous opener had become a constant problem. In his words, he'd work on it Sunday—his day off—only to have it fail again by Tuesday.
The gate itself was worth keeping, so we upgraded the automation instead.

We hand-trenched across the gravel driveway for protected wiring to the second actuator, while the wireless Cartell system eliminated the need for a long exit-sensor wire run down the driveway.
