🌱 Fun Dirt Facts 🌱

Did you know healthy soil is actually alive? A single teaspoon of dirt can contain more microorganisms than there are people on Earth! 🤯

Here are a few more fun dirt facts:

🌿 It can take up to 500 years to naturally form just one inch of topsoil.

🐛 Earthworms are nature’s little farmers — they help aerate soil and add nutrients.

🌎 Different soil colors can tell you a lot about what’s in it. Dark soil usually means lots of organic matter and nutrients.

🌱 Healthy soil helps store water, grow stronger plants, and even helps clean the environment.

🚜 Without good soil, we wouldn’t have gardens, crops, flowers, or healthy pastures.

Turns out dirt is doing a lot more than just making muddy boots. 👢

🌿 Did you know “spring fever” used to mean something very different? 🌿

Back in the day—especially before fresh produce was available year-round—what people called “spring fever” was often closely linked to scurvy, a vitamin C deficiency that built up over long winter months.

During winter, diets were heavy on preserved foods like salted meats, grains, and stored root vegetables. Fresh fruits and greens were scarce. Without enough vitamin C, people could develop scurvy, which caused:

• Fatigue and low energy
• Irritability or mood changes
• Joint and muscle aches
• General weakness or “sluggish” feelings

So when spring finally arrived, and fresh greens and early fruits became available again, people often felt a sudden boost in energy and mood. That “coming back to life” feeling was noticed long before vitamins were understood—hence the old idea of spring fever.

🌼 Modern day spring fever looks a little different.
We now know it’s not scurvy, but a mix of things like:

• More daylight hours affecting energy and mood
• Seasonal changes in sleep patterns
• A natural urge to get outside after winter
• Even seasonal allergies kicking in for some people

So while the name stuck, what we experience today is really just our bodies and minds responding to the shift into a brighter, more active season.
