🎨 Historic Charleston: Color of the Week
Charleston’s colors are more than just aesthetic choices – they reflect the city’s cultural traditions and practical needs. This week we're spotlighting Historic Charleston Green.
📜 The Story Behind the Color:
After the Civil War, during Reconstruction, the federal government supplied Charlestonians with buckets of black paint to brighten the city. To make it more cheerful, locals mixed in small amounts of yellow and green pigment. That unique history is exactly why Charleston Green is still so celebrated today.
🏠 Where You’ll See It:
Historically utilized for accents such as exterior window shutters and front doors, this iconic local color is famous for its dark, nearly black appearance with subtle green undertones.
