EPI Construction is honored to receive the 2026 Ventura County Contractors Association (VCCA) Member Voted Award for Favorite Drywall Contractor. The award was accepted on behalf of the company by Perfecto Hernandez, who leads our drywall operations and consistently demonstrates a commitment to quality craftsmanship and excellence.

We are happy to provide drywall services throughout Ventura County’s commercial construction industry and grateful for the support and recognition from our industry peers. Congratulations to Perfecto and the entire EPI team on this achievement!

Project Completion | Bar di Bello at Sunset Row✨

EPI Construction is proud to announce the completion of Bar di Bello, a bespoke Italian eatery located at Sunset Row in the heart of Silver Lake, Los Angeles. Completed in January 2026, this 1,519 sq. ft. boutique restaurant was thoughtfully designed to create an elevated and intimate hospitality experience with carefully curated finishes and custom details throughout.

The scope of work included a commercial-grade stainless steel back-of-house kitchen, along with a highly detailed front-of-house dining environment featuring a hostess area, built-in booths, a custom bar with travertine wall accents, custom lighting, and beautiful custom porcelain tile flooring.

Special thanks to our clients with Bar di Bello LLC, Alex Wilmot, Kristin Oslewski, Mike Moonves, and Michael Kassar, for the opportunity to help bring this unique restaurant concept to life. We would also like to recognize the design team at 22RE, including Dean Levin, Principal, and Erica David, Designer, along with Art Fernandez and Saul Santizo of Rafael Franco & Associates. A special shout out as well to EPI Project Manager Jaime Pena for managing this unique project.

Projects like Bar di Bello reflect the power of collaboration, craftsmanship, and thoughtful ex*****on from concept through completion.

Three legacies. One foundation.

EPI Construction recently marked several major milestones, honoring the vision and leadership of Gary Blackwell and recognizing the people, partnerships, and shared commitments that have shaped the company’s success over time.

More than a timeline of growth, these milestone reflect the collective effort behind them, and the teams whose expertise, dedication, and pride are the foundation of its success.

The story began over 45 years ago with the founding of EPI Construction, establishing a strong presence in the construction industry. In 2001, Gary Blackwell launched Blackwell Construction, building a reputation for quality craftsmanship and self-performed concrete work.

In 2005, EPI Construction entered a new chapter. Alongside partners John Rutter and Bill Maine, the leadership team carried the company forward, expanding its capabilities as a full-service commercial builder throughout Southern California.

That growth continued in 2020 with the formation of Blackwell Development, Inc., in partnership with Gerry Lopez, extending commercial development efforts across Los Angeles and the Inland Empire.

Each company serves a distinct role, yet all are grounded in the same core values: quality, integrity, collaboration, and long-term relationships. At the center of it all is a team whose contributions continue to drive success.

This year marks:

From foundations to full-scale development, this is a legacy built not only on projects, but on people.

“I chose to share my diagnosis rather than hide it," said Gary Blackwell, Team Fox athlete and EPI Construction President. "I hope my story helps others understand the disease and support the search for a cure.”

That spirit is what drives Team EPI. Earlier this month, they showed up strong at the 2026 Los Angeles Marathon with Team Fox (and yes, Gary did cross the finish line first amongst the team!). But the impact didn't stop there. With more than $41,000 raised so far, they’re continuing to push forward, fueling research and bringing us closer to a cure for Parkinson’s.

We’re proud to be part of this journey with them and grateful for their commitment to turning personal strength into progress for millions.

Big things are happening at Equitas Academy #3, and the excitement says it all.

We originally built this campus back in 2016, and nearly 10 years later, a long awaited addition is finally here.

This spring, EPI Construction partnered with Great Western Recreation to bring that vision to life, and seeing the students’ reaction reminds us exactly why these projects matter.

In the video, you can feel the energy and excitement as students get their first glimpse of what’s coming. Their anticipation for the unveiling says everything, and we cannot wait to share the final reveal with you soon.

The new playground is set to open in early April, just in time for students to enjoy a space built for play, connection, and growth.

In addition to the playground, we are completing several campus upgrades over spring break, including cool coating a portion of the existing asphalt driveway to create a more playground and exercise friendly surface, along with installing a new front entry school sign.

Projects like this go beyond construction. They are about delivering on promises and creating spaces that truly impact a community.

The finish line was only the beginning.

The marathon may be over, but the impact continues. Team EPI is incredibly grateful to everyone who supported our journey in the Los Angeles Marathon benefiting Team Fox, the grassroots fundraising arm of The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we reached and exceeded our original fundraising goal of $25,000 by raising an incredible $41,825 in support of Parkinson’s research. Every donation and message of encouragement helped turn this effort into meaningful impact.

The energy and support we experienced throughout this journey has inspired us to keep the momentum going. Team EPI is continuing our fundraising efforts and is now setting a new stretch goal of reaching or even exceeding $50,000 for Team Fox.

Reflecting on the experience, EPI Construction President Gary Blackwell shared:

“This marathon reminded me that progress is never made alone. The support, encouragement, and shared purpose behind every mile made this journey incredibly meaningful. I am deeply grateful to everyone who stood with us.”
