As students return to campus, we're looking back at a project that continues to shape the student experience.

Pioneer Hall was designed to support how students live today—without losing sight of its history.

The transformation of its original structure included raising the dining program to grade level, expanding seating capacity to 850, and introducing welcoming shared spaces including lounges, recreation areas, meditation rooms, and study environments.

With 257,000 SF of renovated and new construction combined, the project created a more accessible, sustainable, and community-focused living experience for the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus.

Lawrence Group is honored to have partnered with SSM Health on the recent expansion of the Cancer Center at SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital, Lake Saint Louis.

The expanded cancer center introduces new infusion bays, additional exam rooms, an expanded pharmacy, and enhanced waiting areas, providing patients and their families with a welcoming environment throughout every stage of care.

As cancer care continues to advance, the spaces where care is delivered play an increasingly important role in the patient journey. Thoughtful healthcare design considers every person who enters the space, creating environments that promote dignity, comfort, privacy, and connection for patients, families, and caregivers alike.

As part of the Lawrence Group internship program, our interns are challenged to work together on a case study project and present their findings to leadership. From developing their ideas to answering questions and discussing their design decisions, the experience gave them a firsthand look at what it means to present work to stakeholders.

Strong communication, collaboration, and the ability to explain the “why” behind a design are some of the most valuable skills a future architect or designer can develop.

We’re incredibly proud of the work our interns have accomplished and grateful for the curiosity, creativity, and teamwork they brought to this project!

We hope this experience builds confidence and skills to carry throughout their careers.

Every project has a story and Lawrence Group is grateful for the opportunity to share a part of ours with students from Dream Builders 4 Equity.

Led by Architects Tim Rowbottom and Jim Shearer, students explored two distinct approaches: one that transformed a historic landmark through adaptive reuse and a new multifamily built from the ground up, both in one cohesive district, City Foundry STL.

Thank you to our partners at Dream Builders Academy for giving students a firsthand look at the many career paths within the AEC industry. We hope the visit sparked new ideas, opportunities, and inspired the future architects, engineers, and builders!

The best way to understand design is to experience it.

Lawrence Group St. Louis interns recently stepped outside of the studio and onto two remarkable project sites. They toured the construction of the new SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital—where we're partnering with national firms HKS and McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.—and visited City Foundry STL, where our integrated team of Lawrence Group, New + Found, and Integrate Construction Partners transformed a historic industrial site into a vibrant mixed-use destination.

More than seeing great projects, the tours gave a firsthand look at the collaboration, problem-solving, and coordination required to bring complex ideas to life. Those lessons are just as valuable as anything learned in the classroom.

Between project tours, our interns also made a pit stop for a little fun at Puttshack. It sparked some friendly competition, but a great way to recharge!

Austin Regional Clinic: ARC South Specialty 63,000 SF brings together specialty, primary, diagnostic, and outpatient surgical services on one campus.

Lawrence Group began working on this project through a comprehensive feasibility study that informed the decision to pursue new construction, creating a flexible clinical environment designed to support evolving medical programs while meeting complex city and state healthcare requirements.

Managing Principal, Luma Jaffar, shared, "We played a pivotal role in tailoring the building’s spaces to meet ARC’s precise requirements, while adhering to city and state regulations. The subsequent design phase encompassed site improvements and the construction of a flexible building that can accommodate a multitude of medical uses."

The project is also designed with the goal of achieving an Austin Energy Green Building (AEGB) 3 Stars rating through its use of sustainable materials, energy-efficient systems, and natural daylighting throughout.

Congratulations to Austin Regional Clinic, General Contractor Rogers-O'Brien Construction, and the entire project team on delivering another milestone in expanding access to healthcare across Central Texas.

This recognition adds to an extraordinary legacy. Paul was the first architect to receive the S. Earl Thompson Award, followed by the Outstanding Corporate Friend Award, and now the Parthenon Award, a true reflection of Paul's dedication to student housing industry.

For more than 30 years, Paul has partnered with colleges and universities across the country to create environments that support student success, foster community, and enhance the residential experience. This award reflects the trust, relationships, and friendships he has built throughout his career.

This honor would not have been possible without the clients, colleagues, partners, and friends who had supported Paul's nomination, contributed to the fundraising efforts, and continued to place their trust in Paul and our team.
