Well… Indiana weather has definitely been keeping us on our toes lately!
We've had a LOT of rain lately, and with the recent flooding in our area, we've definitely had to keep an eye on the weather. But when you're already on a job, you can't always just pack everything up and say, "We'll come back tomorrow."
So when this crew got caught in the rain, they did what they could do best — kept working, kept smiling, and got the job finished. 💪

These photos were actually taken by the homeowner, who was impressed enough by the crew's attitude to capture the moment.

And honestly? That's exactly the kind of crew we want representing ASU & Sons. The weather may not always cooperate, but we believe the people we work for shouldn't have to pay the price for it whenever we can safely avoid it.

Sometimes you get wet.
Sometimes you get muddy.
Sometimes you just laugh about it and keep moving. 😂🌧️

🚛 Then Comes the Concrete...

Once the ICF blocks are assembled, reinforced, and the doors and windows are properly framed, there's one VERY important step left:

Filling those walls with concrete.

And when we say the concrete is liquid... we mean liquid. 😂

That's why getting everything framed and secured correctly beforehand is so important.

If there's a gap around a window, door, or another opening, that concrete is going to find it.

And when concrete starts coming out somewhere it shouldn't...

You'll know. 😅

The concrete fills the space inside the ICF forms, surrounding the reinforced steel and creating the structural core of the exterior walls.

Once it cures, the result is a solid concrete wall surrounded by insulating foam.

Pretty amazing when you stop and think about what's actually inside the walls of this house.

And now that the walls are up...

It's time to start building the inside. 🏠

🧱 So... What Exactly Is an ICF House?

You've probably heard us mention ICF while we've been talking about this build—but what exactly does that mean?

ICF stands for Insulated Concrete Forms.

The easiest way to picture it? Think LEGO blocks... but for a house. 🧱

The ICF forms are made of insulating foam with built-in furring strips and steel ties. The blocks fit together to create the home's exterior walls.

But these aren't just foam blocks.

The walls are reinforced with steel brackets and rebar running both horizontally and vertically. Once everything is properly placed, the windows and doors are framed, and the walls are ready...

🚛 The concrete truck arrives.

Concrete is poured into the forms, filling the space between the layers of insulation and creating the home's structural exterior walls.

Once the concrete cures, the ICF forms remain in place, providing insulation on both sides of the concrete.

So when we say we're building an ICF home, we're talking about a completely different wall system than traditional stick framing.

And that's only the beginning.

From the ground, it looked like nothing more than a small hole in the siding.

Something that would be easy to overlook.

But once we removed the siding, we discovered the opening extended much farther than anyone could see from the outside.

That's one of the biggest challenges with exterior damage—what you see is often only part of the story.

Over time, even a small opening can become an invitation for unwanted guests, moisture, and additional damage hiding behind the walls.

Fortunately, this was discovered before the damage became even more extensive.

It's a good reminder that if you notice peeling siding, small holes, loose boards, or signs that something doesn't look quite right, it's worth taking a closer look.

Sometimes, the smallest clue leads to the biggest discovery.
