SW MO PEST PRESSURE NEWS | OCT. 12–18
Near-record heat gives way to heavy rain, then a sharp cool-down—and each stage changes the conditions pests can use.
STAGE 1 • MONDAY–TUESDAY
Highs near 90–93°, low humidity and gusty wind keep ants, spiders and ticks active. Check irrigation, pet water, condensate lines and shaded foundations. Clean food residue, fix leaks and trim vegetation touching the building.
STAGE 2 • TUESDAY NIGHT–THURSDAY
NWS Springfield expects widespread rain with possible heavy totals. Rain can wash away outdoor ant food and send foragers toward kitchens, break rooms and pipe gaps. Clear gutters, extend downspouts and recheck crawl drainage, the sump, vapor-barrier seams, insulation and humidity. Empty water caught in containers.
STAGE 3 • FRIDAY–SUNDAY
Cooler days and nights increase shelter-seeking. Check south/west walls, garage and loading-door seals, roof returns, soffits and attic vents for boxelder bugs, lady beetles, mice and wildlife. Move pallets, pet food and stored materials from walls. Never seal an occupied wildlife opening.
BirdCast showed light Missouri migration early October 12, but fall migration continues. Reduce unnecessary night lighting and inspect commercial glass and rooflines.
Termite Control remains inspection-driven: look for moisture and wood-to-soil contact. Bed Bug Control is driven by travel and carried items—not weather. Tick and Mosquito Control depend on habitat and standing water.
