Did you know that biochar is not all created equal?
A lot of big bulk producers are essentially selling crushed lump charcoal. The problem with that is when you add it to your garden or around your plants, that uncharged char can actually pull nutrients from the soil as it starts to build up its microbial life. In the meantime, those nutrients aren't available to your plants.
Eventually, it will slowly release them back into the soil, but that process can take a while. And your plants don't exactly want to wait around for months.
SO... what's the answer?
Biochar that's been inoculated with beneficial microbes before it ever reaches your garden.✅
At Soil House, we make our biochar a little differently. We do it slowly. Think of it like the difference between a craft coffee shop and ________ coffee. (fill in the blank with whatever big brand coffee you might think of...) Minus the attitude of craft coffee shops. 😉
When we make a batch of biochar, it takes a little over two weeks before it gets bagged. During that time, we're inoculating it with a diverse range of beneficial soil microbes and giving them time to establish themselves in the char.
It's pretty cool.
And when you add it to your soil, those little microbial cities are ready to get to work.
