If you have heat pump and have ice all over the top of your unit Make sure to turn your thermostat to emergency heat. Or you will loose the outdoor fan motor or blade and will have to have repairs.

With ice, freezing rain, snow and the extreme cold temperatures heat pumps are going to struggle. If your home is not insulated well it will add additional run time to your unit. If you have issues don’t hesitate to call us at R&R Heating & Cooling and if roads are passable we would love to serve your needs.
If ice builds up in the top grill of your unit where air blows out this will greatly reduce the capacity and operation of your unit. Ice could also break off and get thrown into your condenser coil causing a refrigerant leak. Also after this weather is gone your unit/ outside fan may sound different/noisy and or vibrating. If not addressed this will lead to premature condenser fan motor failures. Water gets into crevices and when it freezes it separates the hubs from the blades causing vibrations and fan blade failures. We hope everyone stays safe and warm!
