What a weekend! The doors are up, the windows are in, and we even fired up our mini gas forge after far too long to knock out the hardware for the door latches.

Next up: getting the inside of the shop organized, building the shed for the compressor and sandblaster filter, and laying the bricks for our newly redesigned coal forge!

On top of that, we’re thrilled to announce that a new website is in the works! Soon, you’ll be able to browse our regular stock and commission portfolio online. It will also be a space for all our resident smiths and partner craftsmen to showcase their work.

Big things are coming, and we can’t wait to share them with you! Stay tuned!

Update on the new shop project! Work continues on the framing for the building, but there's a project within a project going on...
We have slowly been working on restoring a 100 # Bradley upright compact power hammer. It was made around 1900. We figured since it requires a fairly large chunk of concrete that we would get the foundation in the ground during the shop build.
Here are some pictures of the form that will go into the ground and will be stripped away once the concrete is cured. It measures roughly 4' deep, 4' wide and 5' long. The anchor bolts are 1"x8 tpi threaded rod 30" of which is to be embedded in the concrete. On top of the concrete will be about 2" of white oak and 1" of hard rubber as cushion. The reason for the trapezoidal shape is to prevent rebound from the hammer loosening the foundation. This hammer is capable of closed-die forging.

Here are some images taken from the CAD design for the new shop. Total size is approx. 21'x46' and the ceiling height will be 14'. This will allow us to relocate all of our equipment (blacksmithing, machine shop, wood working, leatherworking, etc.) into one big maker-space!

Construction is underway for the new Springboro Forge building!
These pictures are from December, 2021 and are the first step toward preparing the site. An old shed had to go to make way for the new structure. Thanks to Pip Conner for the help dragging it through the mud to clear the area.
Currently, the building foundation is complete and lumber is on site. Many thanks to Anthony Gollmer and his family for an awesome amount of help on that front. Kyle Starr and James Lanham get a huge shout out for helping run the earth auger in 90ºF heat and overwhelming humidity...
There is still a matter of the power hammer foundation, which is quite a chunk of concrete to pour...
Perhaps the next post will include the plans and drawings for the building, the hammer foundation, and the new brick forge to give everyone an idea of the scope of the project.
