When I was growing up on the farm, we called this a "dump rake". It's simply a hay rake which was pulled by horses and later tractors. The tines would catch cut hay laying in the field. Once they were full, the operator would raise them leaving a mound of hay to be loaded onto a trailer or a truck bed to be transported to the barn. It's a good thing baling took over! This rake sits outside of the Widgi Creek Golf Course near Bend, OR. Farm memories.

If you enjoy rural America, one of my favorite spots is Idaho's Camas Prairie. It reminds me of Washington's Palouse country. It was a native gathering place for the Nez Perce nation for thousands of years as they harvested an important food source - the Camas root. Below are representative images of Camas Prairie each labeled individually. I hope you enjoy. Thanks for looking.

About a month away - Todd Lake in Oregon's Central Cascades. Mt. Bachelor is in the background. At 6,150 feet elevation, the lake was named after John Todd who came to Oregon in 1852. Todd was a successful rancher who formed the Farewell Bend Ranch which led to the naming of the town we know today - Bend.

The 97-foot Tumalo Falls 15+ miles west of Bend, Oregon. The word Tumalo is derived from the Klamath natives - meaning icy water and reflects millions of years of volcanic activity and glaciation in Oregon's Central Cascade mountains.

It was four years ago when I found this barn near Billings, Montana. I hope it's still there, but I can't imagine it will be too many more years until it collapses. Much of the barn's history will remain a mystery. But, it was well used and serves as a reminder of hard-working ranchers who helped pave the way for us all.

The barn-a-holic in me is on a rampage. This is a scene I captured in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado one early morning - the San Juan Mountains to be exact. This scene carries a bit of history as it was used in the opening and closing scenes of the 1969 film starring John Wayne - yes True Grit!

Just sharing one more time - this was the first of two full moons in May. I entered it into an international photo competition and it placed 2nd out of 1911 other entries...many of which blew me away. So, very grateful on this Wednesday morning.
