Pinching Dahlia Plants!

It “hurts” to pinch—short term it delays blooms but longer term increases the # of blooms per dahlia plant!

Pinching early is recommended when you see 3-5 sets of true leaves. Pinch the top to encourage branching of stems.

Pinched a Beauty today! KA Cinder Rose. This plant was purchased as a cutting from Stonehouse Dahlias in 2024. This year we planted 10 tubers of this variety! Our small scale flower farm will be bursting with blooms in the next few weeks.

Pinching Tip: When your dahlia plant shows 3 sets of true leaves, it’s time to pinch your plant! This will encourage more growth at each node—resulting in more stems.
