As forecasts indicate the possibility of extended periods of sub‑freezing temperatures combined with Gulf moisture this weekend, we want our 3,700 employees, 28,000 students and their families, and the Hall County community to know that we are preparing for every potential outcome. No operational decisions will be made until a weather event actually occurs, but we are taking proactive steps, including:

- Coordinating closely with state and local officials for the most current information.

- Draining water systems in auxiliary buildings to prevent frozen or damaged plumbing.

- Working with local contractors to stage snow‑ and ice‑removal equipment and materials throughout the county.

- Communicating with principals and instructional staff to ensure readiness for digital at‑home learning should road conditions require school closures.

If power outages occur, all school operations will be cancelled, and there will be no digital learning opportunities.

For the latest updates, please monitor our website at www.hallco.org and follow our official HCSD social media accounts.

Thank you to our team members for all you do and thank you to our community for trusting us with your boys and girls.

3 WAYS TO PREVENT FROZEN PIPES
As temperatures drop, your pipes run the risk of freezing and cracking. Consider these 3 easy things you can do now to prevent frozen pipes.
1 Insulate
Insulation can take various forms, including foam sleeves, pipe "tape," batt insulation, and expanding foam. Insulation slows heat loss from pipes, as long as water is flowing frequently during periods of freezing temperatures.
2 Let it Drip
Letting a faucet drip during extreme cold weather can prevent a pipe from bursting. Only pipes vulnerable to freezing (ones that run through an unheated or unprotected space) should be left with the water flowing.
3 Heat it up
The use of space heaters, electric heating tapes and cables in areas that have exposed water lines can regulate the temperature and prevent freezing. However, these methods must be used with extreme caution to avoid the risk of fire.
