The newest NUMBER9INE TOTEM installation — brings ancestral design into the heart of the modern playground.
Hand-carved from ash, and infused with symbolic color fields representing the Four Directions, this living sculpture is part of the Children’s Media Project Play Yard Series, where art becomes education and ecology becomes storytelling.
Installed under the UCCER Environmental Initiative, this Turtle themed play island is both a land-based learning symbol and cultural transmitter, blending Haudenosaunee, Cayogohono and Anishinaabe teachings with modern sustainability design.
Its form teaches balance — earth, water, fire, air — reminding the next generation that the play yard is sacred ground, and that creation is a story still being told through their hands, voices, and hearts.
