For those who don’t know what Poison Ivy, Poison, Oak, Poison Sumac, look like here are photos of each.

85 - 90% of people are allergic these 3 plants due to the oily resin (urushiol) found in each plant.

- Poison Ivy is characterized by the three-leafed compound leaves, that vary in size and shape, they also flower in small cluster with greenish flowers from May to July.

- Poison Oak is characterized by 3 - 5 lobed leaflets that closely resemble those found on oak trees, they vary in color from dullgreen in summer to red-orange in the fall, they are often hairy in appearance. They tend to grow as a small shrub or a climbing vine, that can reach heights or 10 feet in some cases. Poison Oak is native to the South Eastern United States.

- Poison Sumac is characterized by 7 to 13 leaflets which are smooth and lack teeth, they produce greenish to greenish-white berries that hang loosely from the branches, they are also defined as a swamp shrub. Poison Sumac is found all over Eastern Canada and United States.

Urushiol is highly toxic when burned do not burn any of these plants as they release extremely harmful toxins that can be fatal.

NYS DEC Annual Burn Ban is now in effect as of today March 16 - May 14.
What's allowed -

Backyard Fire Pits (less than 3ft high and 4ft length & width or diameter)
Campfires (less than 3ft high and 4ft length & width or diameter)
Small Cooking Fires
Only charcoal or dry, clean, untreated, unpainted wood can be burned.
NEVER leave these fires unattended and extinguish them when you're done.

What's NOT ALLOWED -
Burning Garbage - includes household trash, plastic, rubber, etc
Burning Leaves
Both are prohibited year-round in the State of New York.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Amanda Lefton today announced that the annual statewide ban prohibiting residential brush burning begins March 16 and runs through May 14.

🌿 Correct Way to Prune 🌿

1️⃣ Cut at a 45° angle just above the bud to promote healthy new growth.
2️⃣ Avoid cutting too steeply — it exposes the branch to drying and disease.
3️⃣ Don’t cut too close to the bud, as it can damage it and prevent healing.
4️⃣ Don’t leave too much wood above the bud — it slows healing and attracts pests.

How to maintain a healthy tree.
Always perform a 3 step cut - Cut out away from the branch collar to relieve weight and pressure from the limb. Start with an undercut and move to a top cut, finish cutting the remainder of the limb just before the branch collar, be careful not to cut the collar. It is recommended to use a hand saw or hand pruners as using a chain saw can tear the wood fibers.
