With the help of Chris (architect) and Don (civil engineer), I was able to get through the charette of the our new assisted living prototype. It's supposed to look messy. I'll clean all this up once we get into design development. These are a few of the two dozen I did trying to get my design thoughts in order.

Once I get this into Revit it will clean up. Right now is to determine adjacencies, rough building sizes, circulation routes, water features, fire access, etc.

Main and secondary buildings will be hexagonal. I've had good results with these in the efficiency of materials, space, and structure. More to come...

Taking "repurpose, reuse, recycle" to the limit. Most architects of experience have a backlog of design ideas that, if they fit the bill for a new client's needs, might be of good use. The rules are that the design can't have previously been built, and that you should prepare for making whatever changes to the design that the client requests

I did a project in architecture school that was a curious building and drew the attention of some people for it's resemblance to the Greek stoa or public gathering space configuration. This idea of the inward facing building focusing on an atrium has been rote since time immemorial, but I tried to put a contemporary spin on it with tilt-wall concrete envelope walls, a structural steel frame, and a standing seam metal roof that slopes to the interior, which is of course opposite of most sloped roof designs.

When speaking to a prospective client in Houston about a new small office building, he basically described to me this project I did almost three decades ago. I sent him the attached image, and he liked the concept and wants to move forward with it.

Sometimes its a very good thing not to throw some things away.
