What a wild afternoon we had here!

🌪️ A jaw-dropping waterspout put on a show over Florida's Treasure Coast and left longtime residents stunned. On July 17, a towering waterspout dropped straight down into the Intracoastal Waterway in Indian River County near Sebastian around 5:18 p.m., as powerful storms swept across the region. Photographers who have lived along the coast for decades said it was one of the most incredible things they had ever witnessed, watching the funnel churn up the water before it stretched all the way to the surface.

Forecasters said the spectacle formed when storms pushing in from the west collided with the sea breeze parked along the coast. The waterspout never moved onto land, and no injuries were reported. The same system pounded nearby areas, dropping 3 to 5 inches of rain across parts of St. Lucie and Martin counties in just a couple of hours, with a 56 mph wind gust clocked at Treasure Coast International Airport. Frequent lightning, gusty winds and localized street flooding ⚡ capped a wild afternoon across Central Florida.
