We are thrilled to be featured on Luxe Magazine's Gold List 2023!

Carillon Point is a prestigious community located on the border of Bellevue and Kirkland, offering breathtaking views of the water to the west. As a premier landscape design firm, we were thrilled to have the opportunity to enhance one of the outdoor spaces in this high-end living community.

Upon entering the ground-level condominium unit, guests are greeted by an axial band of sandstone. Through our design, we strengthened this axis to pass completely through the unit with the shade side accented by a circular water feature and the sun side accented by a fire feature above the waterline. By extending the sandstone to the outside, the landscape becomes intrinsically fused with the interior space.

Modernist Bridge

The thin polished horizontal of the bridge appears to float above the still waters of the black pool.
Oversized boulders read as a rock massif and angle down below these flat planes and into the water.

This bridge spans the pool at a Shoreline Re-Imagined, a 2020 National ASLA award-winning project.

𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝗱

I spent New Years with my partner in a rustic hut high up above the Methow Valley in the Cascade Mountains.
The cinnamon red of the Ponderosa Pines coupled with white snow and blue skies came as a complete surprise.
I was transfixed.

So much of nature closes down in the winter - the visual details of spring, summer and the fall have long scuttled away. Less distracted, our eyes can now more focus on elemental things. Winter can be a reflective time if we allow it.

I always find something that lodges in my mind at Jared Lovejoys' rustic home at Doe Bay, Orcas Island. I enjoy the font too - vaguely 40's modern, it makes me homesick for the London Tubes (underground) and my teenage years.

𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸-𝗼𝗳𝗳

The days (and nights) caught between Christmas and the New Year tend to pass by like a thoughtful reflective journey. Pathways deserve to play an important part in story-telling with landscape design, mimicking the paths we follow in nature.

For me, the following five images capture the essence of this.

A chilly mist envelopes the leeward side of the mountain, blanketing the scene with stillness and calm (and introspection).

In a landscape where details are now scaled back for winter, moss - plumped up with winter moisture - are now ever-present. This is their time to shine.

Image 3
The humble moss has all of the best lines: they unify the ground plane, allow the path to be visible, and create coherence along the way. Everything - terrain, rocks, soil and trees are in their sway.

Silver-gray lichen flourishes in the clean air near the trails' end, providing a perfect foil for the deep greens of the moss.

Cresting the windward side the trail takes us to the prospect of a clear and bright new day.
