Into the garden we go. 🌿

Today I got to put on my moss crown, gather up one of my wildest botanical creations, and spend the day among flowers, makers and a little bit of garden magic.

Somewhere along the way, Moss Mom has become so much more than making moss gardens. I’m finding myself building creatures, portraits, sculptures and strange little pieces of the forest that don’t quite fit into a category yet.

And honestly? I think that might be my favorite part.

Growing something new sometimes means letting it become something you never planned. 💚

Grow slow, die never.

🌿 A New Chapter

For the past year, you’ve known me for moss gardens.

But quietly, another idea has been taking root.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been experimenting with a new form of living botanical art—one that lets the forest escape the vessel and become the portrait itself.

These are the first three pieces in a collection I’ve been creating almost entirely from foraged and reclaimed botanical treasures gathered across the Pacific Northwest.

Each portrait is composed of real stories:
• Feather moss from the ancient forests surrounding Lake Crescent.
• Rose hips gathered along Mukilteo Beach.
• Freshly foraged turkey tail.
• P***y willow.
• Roses from a bouquet Chris gave me, preserved into a second life.
• Countless wildflowers, lichens, cones, seed pods, and mosses collected with gratitude over the past year.

Every piece is a portrait of place as much as it is a portrait of a person.

I’ve always believed nature is the greatest artist. My role is simply to listen—to gather what the seasons leave behind and weave those memories into something that helps us see the forest a little differently.

These are the first works in a collection I’ve been quietly dreaming into existence, and sharing them feels equal parts exciting and terrifying.

Thank you for encouraging me to keep following the moss wherever it leads.

I have a feeling this is only the beginning.

🍃 Mossy Moment of the Day

There are places that become part of who you are.

Yesterday, Mukilteo reminded me why.

A sea as calm as glass. Mount Baker watching from the horizon. The lighthouse standing where it always has. Wild rose hips glowing along the trail, waiting to be noticed.

Some people travel thousands of miles to experience a place like this.

I get to call it home.

On days like these, gratitude comes easily. The kind that settles in quietly with the rhythm of the waves and reminds you that paradise isn’t always somewhere else.

Sometimes, it’s simply the place you’ve been lucky enough to belong all along.

💚 Grow slow. Die never.

🌿 Mossy Moment of the Day

Some friendships grow just like moss—slowly, quietly, and strong enough to weather the years.

Today was extra special because my best friend came all the way from Connecticut for her first visit home since I started Moss Mom. We spent the morning doing one of our favorite things: thrifting for beautiful glass treasures, then headed home to turn them into moss gardens together.

We’ve been best friends since we were 13, growing up together in Forks, Washington, and we even have matching kanji tattoos to symbolize the bond we’ve shared for decades.

Getting to introduce her to this little world I’ve built—one handful of moss at a time—felt like bringing two chapters of my life together. The girl who knew me long before Moss Mom met the dream that finally grew from all those years of imagining.

Some treasures are found on thrift store shelves.

Some have been beside you all along. 💚🌿

🍃 Mossy Moment of the Day

Sometimes the forest gives you moss.

Sometimes it gives you an entirely new direction.

A few twigs became a profile.
A cascade of moss became hair.
Suddenly I wasn’t just making a wall hanging anymore—I was meeting someone.

I love working with the shapes nature has already written. Every stem bends its own way. Every piece of moss has a story. My job is just to listen long enough to discover who wants to emerge.

This feels like the beginning of something new.

Maybe we’re all a little more made of forests than we realize.

Seattle Hosted the World Cup… and Immediately Crowned a New MVP: Most Valuable Procyon. 🦝

Move over, soccer stars.

The city’s newest icon is Jimothy—our delightfully rotund neighborhood raccoon who has stolen the internet’s heart one tiny waddle at a time.

Only in the Pacific Northwest could a slightly mysterious, wonderfully odd woodland creature become an overnight legend.

Honestly? It tracks.

We already cheer for octopuses escaping aquariums, celebrate salmon crossing roads, stop traffic for ducks, and collectively lose our minds over banana slugs.

Jimothy fits right in.

Here’s to our fuzzy little ambassador of weirdness, proving once again that the Pacific Northwest has always known the best celebrities aren’t found on red carpets…

They’re usually hiding in the bushes.

Welcome to the spotlight, Jimothy. May your snacks be plentiful, your trash cans easy to open, and your admirers respectful enough to let you stay gloriously wild. 💚🦝
