The abandoned, old, rusty, graffiti-covered ship Albert on the 24th Ave NW street-end pier may be facing a sad end: If it's not removed by Oct. 21, the state will remove and destroy it.

Albert was named for an Icelandic fisherman lost at sea, and was built in Reykjavik and launched in 1956. Over the past 70 years, Albert served as a search-and-rescue and research vessel, a diving charter boat, a mail carrier in Costa Rica, and a support vessel during the Exxon Valdez oil spill cleanup in Alaska.

The derelict and abandoned ship Albert is facing removal and deconstruction if the owner doesn't respond by Oct. 21.
