With the next cold snap coming to the greater Seattle area, it’s time to pull out and install your floating de-icer or aerator. If you plan to just keep your pond running as usual, that’s fine, do that. If you’re worried about things freezing, check your UV light, keep it on with water flowing through it, or turn it off and make sure it’s dry. Freezing water expands and the ice will break the quartz sleeve and bulb. Check our retail website if you need any winter supplies, and don’t hesitate to call if you need further advice. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Well, Seattle set another heat record, this time it was the most consecutive days at or above 90 degrees. So all last week we focused only on saving fish. We went to dirty ponds that had large koi, green water, and non functioning pumps, a deadly combination with the very high temperatures. We found many fish gasping at the surface for oxygen at several of the ponds. One pump was just dead, the others were completely clogged. We got them all running again, cleaned out the filtration systems, and some ponds also got big water changes. There was a noticeable positive difference in the behavior of the fish soon after we finished. With cooler more average temperatures in the forecast it’s back to fixing leaks, total clean outs, and pond building again.

Despite the dreary weather it is officially spring, and that means algae season is upon us. It doesn’t have to be totally sunny and hot. All it takes is the increasingly longer days and warmer than winter temperatures to wake it up. Not all algae is bad, and the bad stuff is usually only temporary. The rest of the good stuff in your pond will catch up eventually. Our grower says they should be ready to start shipping plants soon. If you can’t wait, you can give your beneficial bacteria a boost, get yourself a new net, or replace your UV bulbs now. Remove all the string algae you can, clean your filters, and scoop out any winter debris or leftover leaves. Check our website for products and available plants, let us know if you can’t find something or have any trouble ordering.

'PerformancePro' are very high quality external pumps. Quiet operation, extremely impressive performance, and a great warranty.

We recently installed this "PerformancePro Artesian2 3/4 HP High Head Self-Priming Pump" for a client at Tacoma, WA. Like always this pump absolutely exceeded all our expectations.
Customer was extremely happy with the performance and how quiet it is. We most definitely recommend these pumps to anyone looking for a new external pump or a replacement.
