🏗️ Five sectors complete, three more to go on the new 350-bed Western State Hospital New Forensic Hospital in Lakewood.

In partnership with Clark Construction Group, Crutcher Structures is delivering a major concrete package for the 467,000-square-foot ground-up hospital building, along with a 53,000-square-foot mass timber administration building.

Our team continues to progress west to east along the new hospital's footprint.

By the numbers so far:

-We’ve logged 120,000 man-hours.
-We’re placing 40,000 cubic yards of concrete on this project.
-We’re operating the project’s three tower cranes, the first of which will be dismantled early next month.

This project marks a significant step forward for forensic behavioral healthcare for the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services and we're proud to be a part of it.

We’ve placed the first concrete footings on the South Lab Addition at the Washington Public Health Laboratories campus in Shoreline. When complete, the 32,000-square-foot expansion will add new labs and offices for the Environmental Lab Services department, expanding testing capabilities and capacity for the Washington State Department of Health across a wide range of public health needs.

In April, the team expects to have slab on grade placement complete and structural steel on site.

This new facility will advance prevention and preparedness in Washington while reflecting a commitment to modern public health infrastructure that supports our communities.

The South Lab Addition will be complete in Q2 2027.

Excited to join Clark Construction Group and many others in celebrating the topping out of the first of eight sectors being built for the new 350-bed Western State Hospital New Forensic Hospital.

Lewis and Crutcher Structures are partnering with Clark to deliver a major concrete package for this new ground-up hospital building, along with a 53,000-square-foot mass timber administration building.

Our team will continue progressing west to east along the new hospital's footprint as we build the remaining sectors.

In addition to placing 40,000 cubic yards of concrete, Lewis is overseeing operations for the project’s three tower cranes, supporting the complex sequencing required for this large-scale build.

This project marks a significant step forward in transforming behavioral healthcare for forensic patients in Washington state, and we're proud to be a part of it.

If you’ve ever admired a large-scale Lewis commercial project in Seattle, there’s a good chance general foreman Lorie Tibbetts helped build it.

Over her 35-year career, Lorie and her crews have placed more than 560,000 cubic yards of concrete. That’s 2.2 billion pounds of material.

Her journey with Lewis started back in 1990 as a laborer. A friend suggested she ask a superintendent about a spot on the Second & Seneca tower project. She soon found herself helping with a concrete pour, rake in hand.

That opportunity launched a career defined by both technical expertise and the ability to build strong, close-knit crews. Ranging from six to eight people, Lorie’s team moves from job to job and handles everything from building the structures, to flagging, to final cleaning.

At Rainier Square Tower, Seattle’s second-tallest high-rise, she was involved in building the first-of-its-kind SpeedCore structure. At one point, her team pumped a specially-formulated concrete mix 850 feet above downtown Seattle. She also helped build a full-scale mockup of the structure offsite in advance.

"We’d build the plan together—subcontractors, workers, foremen—and then execute it. We made hard things look easy,” she says of her most complex assignments.

Other memorable milestones include building the Seattle Metro Logistics warehouse at Terminal 106 and the Seattle Convention Center Summit addition.

Beyond those achievements, it’s Lorie’s leadership style that she takes the most pride in. She’s not afraid to speak up.

“Sometimes you have to be the one to say the hard thing,” she says.

We're partnering with Clark Construction Group to deliver a major concrete package for the new 467,000-square-foot, 350-bed Western State Hospital New Forensic Hospital and a 53,000-square-foot mass timber administration building.

This project marks a significant step forward in transforming behavioral healthcare for forensic patients in Washington state, and we're proud to be a part of it!

Our scope begins this month and will continue through summer 2026. This highly technical, phased work will be completed in sectors, with our team moving west to east along the new hospital's footprint. Crews will be starting with below-grade slabs in the basement before progressing above grade and then moving to the next sector.

The team will place about 40,000 cubic yards of concrete, including foundations, concrete decks, shear walls, and more. In addition to the concrete work, Lewis will be overseeing operations for the project’s three tower cranes, with the first set to be assembled this summer.

The 222 5th Ave. life science project team has won a 2024 Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI) Honors Award for design and construction excellence! 🏆

Built by Lease Crutcher Lewis steps from Seattle Center, the building features steel-reinforced cast-in-place concrete placed by Crutcher Structures. It incorporates a unique seismic system with an offset shear wall core and moment frames. Designed with life-science-ready floors and long-span flat-plate slabs, the project maximizes seismic performance, vibration control, and architectural flexibility.

We extend our gratitude to our partners including Cary Kopczynski & Company - CKC Structural Engineers, Farwest Steel Corporation and Gensler. We look forward to celebrating the building's opening with you!

A complex bridge structure at the two-story Seattle Metro Logistics warehouse project in South Seattle is nearing completion.

Semi-trucks arriving on-site will reach the upper-level loading dock via an earthen ramp and concrete bridge structure. The bridge has complex geometry, with a design that includes compound slopes and angles, along with camber in the beams and girders. Crews from Crutcher Structures formed this bridge using 132 mega-shore towers ranging from 20-31 feet tall. Crews from Pacific Steel Group placed 170 tons of reinforcing bar on top of the formwork before we covered it all in 832 cubic yards of concrete.

Developed by Trammell Crow Company, Seattle Metro Logistics will be just the region’s second multistory warehouse when work wraps up this summer at the Port of Seattle's Terminal 106.
