What is that?!
This is a solidified grease plug pulled from a sewer line. Grease starts as a liquid when hot, but once it cools inside the pipes, it hardens into a thick, waxy blockage—sometimes as tough as a candle.

In this case, the line had already been jetted twice, and the clog was still too dense to break up. We had to bring in camera inspection and a high-pressure jetting system to finally remove it.

Why Grease Is a Big Problem
• Grease sticks to the inside of pipes. Over time it builds layer upon layer until the pipe is nearly closed.
• Hot water doesn’t help. It only moves the grease farther down the line before it cools and hardens again.
• Common sources: cooking oils, bacon grease, meat drippings, butter, sauces, even residue from dishwashing.

How to Prevent This
• Never pour grease or oil down the drain—even small amounts add up.
• Wipe greasy pans with a paper towel before washing.
• Pour cooled grease into a container and throw it away.
• Use sink strainers to catch food particles that can bind with grease.

The Bottom Line

Grease clogs are expensive, hard to remove, and can damage your plumbing. A little prevention goes a long way toward keeping your sewer line healthy.

To every veteran who wore the uniform, thank you for your courage when it was costly, for your service when it was needed most, and for the example you continue to set long after the battlefields are quiet.

Freedom isn’t free—and your sacrifice is the reason we wake up each day in a nation built on faith, courage, and resolve.
