🏠 A Little Advice When Filing a Roof Claim (Long read but worth it)
If you’re dealing with a roof claim, here are a few things every homeowner should know:
📸 Make sure your roofing company takes BEFORE pictures of the ENTIRE roof—not just the damage.
Insurance adjusters may take photos and send them to a desk adjuster who has never physically seen your roof. The insurance company may base what they pay for on those pictures.
We recently had a situation where a home had
20 ft. of ridge vent, but the adjuster’s photos only showed 6 ft. The insurance company initially paid for only 6 ft.. Thankfully, our complete photos helped document the additional ridge vent and get it included.
Another claim had no payment for gutters even though the house had gutters. They wanted pictures of the gutters as well as pictures of the gutters taken off and in the dumpster 🙄
📋 Check your city’s permit requirements.
A permit may be required for your roof replacement. Make sure your contractor is properly registered and that any required permits are pulled.
⏰ And remember—there’s usually no need to RUSH! If a company is rushing you or making you feel like you need to make a decision now, then that is a bad sign.
💧If your roof is leaking, ask about temporary repairs or tarping to protect your home while you work through the claim. Depending on your policy and insurance company, additional coverage may be available for temporary measures or related costs while you arrange the replacement.
Most importantly, document everything and ask questions❓️You deserve to know exactly what is being included in your claim and why.
At SoTex Roofing and Exteriors , we believe homeowners should be educated about their roof—not pressured into a decision.
