Safety First...🤣🤣🤣

Shout out to one of our master urban gardeners for keeping the laughs going in the garden. We gave her an electric trimmer to cut those pesky vines that are choking our pecan tree 🌳.
It's a lot of work, but worth it to see the tree free with the ability to thrive and produce.

DID YOU KNOW...🤔
Yes indeed vines wrapped around a tree can
"choke" it, or more accurately, girdle it, by restricting the flow of nutrients and water. This can happen when vines grow tightly around the trunk or branches, constricting the phloem and xylem, the tissues responsible for transporting these vital substances.

✔️Examples of Vines that can cause this:
🌳Wisteria: This vine is known for its ability to circle and strangle tree trunks.
🌳English Ivy: While it can be slower-growing, English ivy can also girdle trees and damage bark, especially when it matures.
🌳Asiatic Bittersweet: This invasive vine is particularly aggressive and can kill trees by strangling them.

A Huge Thank You for Our Community Garden Cleanup!🌱

What an amazing day of community spirit! Last Saturday, June 14th, from 10 AM to 1 PM, our Blessings in a Book Bag family came together for a fantastic Community Garden Cleanup and Clear Out event!
We were so heartened to see our dedicated board members, incredible community volunteers, and inspiring local leaders all roll up their sleeves to help us revitalize our community garden.

Together, we tackled clearing overgrown areas, preparing garden beds, removing debris, making the space even more beautiful and ready to serve our mission.
This garden is more than just a plot of land – it's a place where we can cultivate healthy food and foster a thriving community. Your hard work directly supports our efforts to combat food insecurity and ensure that children and families in Savannah have access to fresh, nutritious options.

A massive thank you to every single person who showed up and contributed their time and energy! Your dedication makes a real difference. Stay tuned for more updates on how this garden will continue to grow and benefit our community!

This is a family-friendly event and we will have refreshments and nourishment for all. Wear comfy clothes and sneakers. We will be cleaning, clearing, and planting.
