🌳 A full, green canopy doesn’t always tell the whole story.

August growth can make it harder to see deadwood, crossing limbs, compromised attachments, and other conditions developing inside mature trees.

With Southwest Florida in hurricane season, proper canopy assessment matters.

See what proper crown cleaning—and proper pruning—actually looks like on the Tree West blog.

🌴 Don’t Wait for a Storm to Find the Weakness in Your Trees.

With tropical activity being monitored in the Atlantic, now is the time to think proactively—not when Southwest Florida is already in the cone.

Dead limbs, compromised branches, excessive canopy weight, and declining trees can quickly become liabilities when tropical weather brings high winds and heavy rain.

A proactive tree assessment can help identify concerns early, protect your property, and give you time to address them properly.

Protect the trees you’ve invested in—and the property beneath them.

HOA Tree Insight: Liability Starts With What Gets Overlooked

Dead limbs over walkways. Declining trees near buildings. Weak attachments over parking areas. Palms dropping material into common spaces.

For HOA and condo boards, tree care isn’t only about appearance—it’s also about recognizing potential hazards throughout the property.

Routine inspections by an ISA Certified Arborist can help identify concerns early and give boards a clearer plan for what needs attention now, what can be monitored, and what can wait.

Proactive tree management protects more than the canopy.

Monday Canopy Check 🌳🌀

The tropics are giving Southwest Florida another reminder: storm preparation starts before we’re in the cone.

As activity across the Atlantic becomes something to keep an eye on, now is a good time to look up at your own property.

Dead or hanging limbs, overly dense canopies, weak branch unions and structural defects can all become bigger concerns when our summer weather turns rough.

At Tree West, our ISA Certified Arborists look beyond simply “trimming trees.” Proper pruning and proactive tree assessments are about structure, health and helping your canopy better handle the conditions we see here in Southwest Florida.

Don’t wait until a storm is on the doorstep to start looking up. 🌳

Tree Talk Thursday 🌳

Not every tree needs to be cut back—sometimes it simply needs to be cleaned.

Crown cleaning is the selective removal of dead, broken, diseased, or weak branches throughout a tree’s canopy. It helps improve safety, promotes tree health, and can reduce the risk of storm-related failures.

The goal isn’t to remove more—it’s to remove what’s no longer helping the tree thrive.

🌳 Myth-Busting Tuesday

Myth: If a tree is damaged, it’s best to just leave it alone. It’ll heal itself.

Truth: Trees don’t heal the way people do.

When a branch breaks or a tree is wounded, it doesn’t grow new wood to repair the damage. Instead, trees use a natural process called compartmentalization—they seal off the injured area to help slow the spread of decay.

That process is remarkable, but it doesn’t mean every wound should be ignored.

In Southwest Florida, damaged limbs from storms, improper pruning, or construction can become entry points for decay, disease, insects, and structural weakness if they’re not evaluated properly.

A certified arborist can determine whether a tree simply needs time to compartmentalize—or whether corrective pruning or other care is needed to protect its long-term health.

Every cut matters. Proper pruning encourages stronger structure, reduces future hazards, and helps preserve the beauty and longevity of your trees.

🌴 At Tree West, our ISA Certified Arborists evaluate every tree individually because no two trees—and no two wounds—are exactly alike.

⭐ One Neighbor. One Recommendation. Another Happy Customer.

One of the greatest compliments we can receive is when a neighbor trusts us enough to recommend us to someone they care about.

Recently, we had the opportunity to help a homeowner after their neighbor referred them to Tree West. Even though the project was much smaller than the original job, our team approached it with the same attention to detail, communication, and professionalism.

To everyone who recommends Tree West to friends and neighbors—thank you. Your trust means everything to us, and we’ll continue working hard to earn it on every property, no matter the size.

🌴 Palm Tip Monday

We’ve had our share of rain lately, and one question we hear often is:

“Should I be worried about my palms?”

In most cases, healthy palms handle Southwest Florida’s summer rains just fine.

What’s normal after heavy rain?

✔️ Older fronds drooping a bit more than usual
✔️ Damp or saturated soil for a day or two
✔️ A few yellowing lower fronds as part of the normal growth cycle

What isn’t normal?

⚠️ A palm beginning to lean
⚠️ A soft or collapsing spear leaf
⚠️ Sudden yellowing in the center of the canopy
⚠️ Mushrooms or decay around the trunk
⚠️ Cracks or movement at the base

Heavy rain doesn’t usually create these problems—it often reveals issues that were already developing underground or within the tree.

If one of your palms doesn’t look quite right after the recent storms, it’s worth having it inspected before hurricane season ramps up.

🌴 Tree West’s ISA Certified Arborists proudly serve homeowners, HOAs, and commercial properties throughout Southwest Florida.

Arborist Ride Along

Not every tree inspection ends with a recommendation to remove a tree.

In fact, most don’t.

This week, our ISA Certified Arborists inspected properties across Southwest Florida looking for the issues homeowners often miss until they become expensive—or dangerous.

During routine inspections, we’re evaluating:

🌴 Palm health and nutrient deficiencies
🌳 Dead or declining limbs hidden within the canopy
⚠️ Storm damage from recent weather
🪵 Structural defects that can lead to future failures
🍄 Early signs of disease, decay, or insect activity

Many tree problems are much easier—and less costly—to address when they’re identified early.

That’s why routine inspections are one of the most valuable services we provide.

If you have mature trees on your property, especially heading into the heart of hurricane season, now is the perfect time to have them evaluated.

One thing we see all over Southwest Florida this time of year is mulch washing out after repeated afternoon storms.

Most people think they simply need more mulch.

In reality, the bigger issue is often worn bed edges or grading that allows water to carry everything away.

A quick refresh with properly defined edges and the right mulch depth can make your landscape look dramatically cleaner—and help it stay that way through the rest of the rainy season.

If you’re in Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, Sanibel, or Captiva and your beds are looking tired after the recent rains, we’re always happy to stop by and offer recommendations.
