đł Myth-Busting Tuesday
Myth: If a tree is damaged, itâs best to just leave it alone. Itâll heal itself.
Truth: Trees donât heal the way people do.
When a branch breaks or a tree is wounded, it doesnât grow new wood to repair the damage. Instead, trees use a natural process called compartmentalizationâthey seal off the injured area to help slow the spread of decay.
That process is remarkable, but it doesnât mean every wound should be ignored.
In Southwest Florida, damaged limbs from storms, improper pruning, or construction can become entry points for decay, disease, insects, and structural weakness if theyâre not evaluated properly.
A certified arborist can determine whether a tree simply needs time to compartmentalizeâor whether corrective pruning or other care is needed to protect its long-term health.
Every cut matters. Proper pruning encourages stronger structure, reduces future hazards, and helps preserve the beauty and longevity of your trees.
đ´ At Tree West, our ISA Certified Arborists evaluate every tree individually because no two treesâand no two woundsâare exactly alike.
