Every fixture needs a good home.

In a pool or fountain, the housing is the first thing the water meets. Some submerged fixtures are still sold in 304 stainless steel. Every Unmei fixture and niche is 316L stainless steel, and UL Listed.

Hart Plaza's fountain came back online in June 2024 after a five-year closure, with Unmei's cast 316L stainless steel LED fixtures behind the water.

162 fixtures, on-board DMX with remote device management, running the upper ring and basin through a $5.6 million restoration. Same fountain Noguchi designed in 1976, now running on hardware built to handle it long-term.

The Olympic Runner is William Zorach's tribute to Harry Kiener, who ran for the U.S. at the 1904 St. Louis Olympics. He stands inside a ring of cascading foam jets, with Spot Series fixtures set in niches lighting the water and the sculpture.

A few steps away, the interactive splash pad runs Spot Series fixtures under a stainless steel grate, hundreds of nozzles packed tight beneath it.

Last photo is the install at the Runner: fixtures set, wired and tested in the basin before fill. 316L stainless, UL Listed for fountains.

One fixture series, two features. Single-color white, or the full color range for game nights and events downtown.

Not all "UL Listed" means the same thing.

A lot of underwater fixtures carry a general UL mark for wet locations. Not full submersion in a fountain basin.

UL 676 is the listing that actually tests for that environment.

Every Unmei fixture carries it.

Worth checking which listing is on the spec sheet you're being handed.

An optional glare shield on the Spot Series blocks part of the beam before it travels upward.

Useful anywhere the fixture sits low near foot traffic. A reflecting pool lining a walkway, for example - where uplighting would otherwise catch pedestrians in the eyes.

Unmei LEDs Spot Series remains UL 1241 listed, NEC 680 compliant, with or without the shield.

Over 140 Unmei Spot Series fixtures light the cascading fountain walls at Peavey Plaza in downtown Minneapolis. A landmark 1975 plaza reimagined in a 2018/2019 restoration led by Coen+Partners
