Did your path lead you to me?

I’m Courtenay Dill Glander, Founder and Principal of CDG ARCHITECTURE | California.

We dream, design, build, and take risks together. Nothing brings me greater joy than transforming my clients’ dreams into spaces that inspire.

Today’s design lesson: Take the risk.

The most memorable architecture is rarely the safest. The boldest ideas often lead to the greatest rewards.

The stunning Viceroy Los Cabos, designed by visionary Mexican architect Miguel Ángel Aragonés, is a beautiful reminder that pushing boundaries can create something unforgettable.

Bravo, Miguel Ángel Aragonés — your work is a triumph.

ONWARD.

It’s more than a word — it’s a mindset.

Taking on a major construction project is no small feat. It requires patience, perseverance, time, and a significant investment. But seeing a vision come to life can be one of the most rewarding experiences.

They say if your family can make it through a remodel or building project together, you can make it through just about anything. There’s truth in that. Every challenge, decision, and milestone along the way builds something bigger than the home itself.

“ONWARD” is how I sign off every email because it reflects what matters most to me: continuing to move forward, one step at a time, with purpose and determination.

No matter the obstacles, we keep building.

ONWARD.

An architect you can lean on.

I love working with couples on their dream homes. It’s one of the most intimate processes — taking your stories, personalities, and visions and transforming them into a place that feels uniquely yours.

This work is about so much more than design. It’s about listening, understanding, navigating different personalities and priorities, and being a trusted partner throughout the journey. (And yes, architect-client confidentiality means I’ve heard it all!)

As I tell my clients:

“Something on your project will go wrong. We don’t know what it is yet, but it will. And if I’m doing my job right, we will handle it with grace, beauty, and integrity and get through it together.”

Great design is a partnership. I’m here to listen, guide, problem-solve, and help bring your vision to life — every step of the way.

Baja California Series

Travel has always been one of my favorite design tools.

As an architect and founder of CDG ARCHITECTURE | California, I believe the best inspiration comes from experiencing beautifully designed spaces around the world.

Whether it’s a luxury hotel or a thoughtfully designed vacation home, the smallest details often leave the greatest impression.

One of my favorite shower details — one I now incorporate into many of my projects — was inspired by a stay at a beautifully designed hotel in the UK. The niche was positioned directly above the shower controls: elegant, intuitive, and exactly where you need it. It keeps the shower feeling clean and uncluttered while making everyday routines effortless.

The best design inspiration is collected through experience. Travel well, pay attention, and bring home the details that inspire you.

Baja California Series

One of the highlights of our trip was staying at Viceroy Los Cabos, designed by legendary Mexican architect Miguel Ángel Aragonés. Every detail felt intentional, and I came home with ideas I’ll be bringing into future client projects.

The bathing suites: Dramatic, oversized wet rooms with a soaking tub, shower, double vanity, separate water closet, and dressing area. My favorite detail was a cleverly placed wall that lets you reach the shower controls without interrupting the full-height glass enclosure. Brilliant design.

Outdoor soaking tubs: Beautifully integrated into the private deck, offering a luxurious alternative when there’s not enough space for a plunge pool or hot tub.

Lutron lighting controls: I have these in my own home and love them. Lighting, scenes, and shades are all controlled from one beautifully engraved panel—simple, elegant, and intuitive.

The best hotels don’t just inspire a vacation — they inspire better design.

Behind every great architect is a loving and supportive spouse. 🩵

The rock behind CDG ARCHITECTURE | California is John. Being married to an architect or designer isn’t always easy. Life has a way of becoming one never-ending project! A shout-out to all the design spouses out there... you know exactly what I mean.

Today’s resort design lesson is about making space for your partner. His-and-hers isn’t just about closets — it’s about creating room for each person to feel seen, supported, and completely at home. It’s easy to focus on what we want ourselves; great design happens when we intentionally design for someone else, too.

One thing I always strive for is listening carefully to both partners and making sure each person’s non-negotiables are reflected in the final design. Every project includes at least one special, bespoke space for each individual.

For John, it’s his band room, that special a place for all the guitars, amps, and yes... all those cords. 🎸

CDG ARCHITECTURE | California is taking you on vacation!

As architects, we never really turn our design brains off. In fact, when we visit beautiful luxury destinations, they go into overdrive.

One of Courtenay’s favorite things to do is stay at thoughtfully designed luxury resorts. There’s nothing like experiencing incredible architecture and interiors in person. Every visit sparks fresh ideas, clever design solutions, and new ways of thinking about space. Lucky you... she’s bringing those ideas home!

Throughout this series, Courtenay will be sharing her favorite luxury resort design takeaways and showing you how to incorporate them into your own home.

Walk—or should we say strut—with us through the Viceroy Los Cabos.

A huge thank you to our amazing photographer, Carlos Hernandez, for capturing these incredible images.
