Z Atelier Zeterre

Z Atelier Zeterre Landscape Architects creating sumptuous gardens. Curators of fine antiques/furnishings which blur the lines between indoor&out! Soon floral creations!

Zeterre Landscape Architecture was founded with a focus on creating unique outdoor ambiance and innovative design for exclusive homes. Always site specific and architecturally appropriate, each garden that Zeterre creates is an expression of the homeowner, the architecture, and the interiors of the building. Our goal is to make all of these important elements flow together seamlessly with the garden.

Where a tennis court once stood, forty feet above street level, we built an Italianate garden in Pacific Heights. Every marble element was carved by hand, the acanthus scrollwork tracing a motif that originated in fifth-century BCE Corinthian capitals and migrated through Renaissance Italy into gardens like this one.

And if that isn't enough. The limestone bench is also heated.

Not every detail announces itself from the path. We designed these stainless steel sculptures and built them by hand in Jarrod's brother's metal studio, catching light and shifting with each breeze while the amber grasses keep time beside them.

When we design a garden, we start with the house itself. Here in Hillsborough, the architecture spoke in ipe, Tabebuia, a Brazilian hardwood so dense it barely floats. We pulled that same wood from the facade and carried it through the deck, the bocce court surround, and out to the infinity edge where the surface drops away and Silicon Valley opens below. Splinter-free, warm underfoot in sun, the garden doesn't begin at the door. It began on the architect's drawings.

Sandstone stacked dry, succulents still small in fresh soil, an aloe already pushing a bicolor bloom spike toward the light. We build the structure and then we wait, because a garden is a conversation that never quite resolves.

Stone and greenery in conversation.

The garden design borrows from Provençal estates where structured hedging meets aromatic plantings.

Classic Mediterranean combinations thrive here.

We named this one Contemporary Zen for a reason. The classical elements, the placed boulders, the raked-style white gravel, all of that arrives through centuries of tradition. The metal pipes and precision-milled wood edge are ours. The invisible work is making both feel equally inevitable.

Morgan Manor is the kind of project where we draw from European garden tradition and let it live in a completely different climate. The stone balustrade carries old-world proportions while the roses beside it keep pushing, blooming, refusing to behave like museum pieces.

We believe a garden should slow you down before it shows you anything. This path does that through rhythm, the way each paver lands just far enough apart that you have to notice the green between your feet, the purple pressing in from both sides.

We trained these David Austin climbing roses to follow the pergola's rhythm, and they responded with hundreds of blooms per season. That's the thing about Rosa climbers...give them structure and they'll give you something unforgettable.
