The Giants knew exactly what they were getting when they signed Luis Arraez ahead of the 2026 MLB season: a prototypical leadoff hitter who gets on base often.

That strength was on display on Wednesday against the Braves when Arraez went 3-for-5, scoring 2 times, as the Giants came out victorious, 7-2 🙌

This is the report San Francisco fans never wanted to read.

ESPN's Buster Olney reported that the Giants are open to offers for their three highest-paid position players, Rafael Devers, W***y Adames, and Matt Chapman, among other trade candidates like Luis Arraez and Robbie Ray.

San Francisco entered Tuesday with the second-worst record in the National League at 29-43, behind only the Rockies. A team built to contend is instead facing the most uncomfortable conversation in the sport, whether to blow it up.

Here's the reality check on how complicated this actually gets:

🔹Devers is owed $211 million through 2033, a contract that will be extremely difficult to move

🔹Adames' salary jumps to $31.1 million annually starting in 2027

🔹Chapman is owed another $100 million through 2030 and holds a full no-trade clause

🔹Logan Webb is not available, the Giants have no plans to move their ace or any young players

🔹Arraez is the most realistic trade chip given his strong season and expiring contract

If the Giants somehow moved all three big contracts with no money retained, it would remove over $80 million in luxury-tax commitments from the books, but that's the clean, theoretical version. The real version likely requires San Francisco eating significant money just to get any team to bite.

One year ago, acquiring Devers from Boston was supposed to be the move that pushed the Giants into contention. Instead, San Francisco might be entering one of the most dramatic sell-offs in recent franchise memory.

The trade deadline just got very interesting in the Bay.

At this point, big moves have to be made if the Giants want to make a run at the postseason...

How’s this for a coincidence?

Rafael Devers was the Giants’ key acquisition in the 2025 MLB regular season, as they finally got the star slugger they were looking for after missing out on names such as Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani.

Nearly one year later, and Devers might be on his way out of The Bay.

According to baseball insider Buster Olney, the Giants are now willing to trade the biggest players on their roster, which is, of course, headlined by Devers.

Including this year, the lefty slugger will be owed $223.5 million until the 2032 season.

Devers is having a lower-than-usual production in 2026, sporting a batting slash line of .235/.293/.413 and “just” 9 home runs and 101 OPS+

The Giants are, as of posting time, 16.5 games back in the National League West, and 8.5 games back for the final wild card spot 👀

The Giants paid for Matt Chapman. And right now, they're finally getting him.

Chapman began 2026 with just one home run in his first 58 games, posting some of the worst offensive numbers of his career. The power disappeared, the production wasn't there, and questions around his contract started getting louder.

Then something clicked. And it hasn't stopped.

Over his last 30 games, and in June alone the numbers have been ridiculous:

🔹 .469 AVG |.548 OBP | 1.000 SLG | 1.548 OPS in June
🔹 5 home runs after just 1 in his first 58 games
🔹 18 RBIs and 6 walks against just 4 strikeouts in the month
🔹 Career-high 8 RBI game against the Cubs
🔹 One of the biggest jumps in expected offensive production in baseball recently

“I've been feeling good lately and been able to do my part and join in on some of this offense,” Chapman said simply.

Simple words. Extraordinary results.

His improved plate discipline, hard contact, and confidence at the plate suggest this isn't just a random hot streak, and for a Giants team desperately searching for reasons to believe, Chapman is providing one.

The Giants are 29-43. But Matt Chapman is finally raking. And in San Francisco right now, that matters more than almost anything else.

Logan Webb is putting up video game numbers and proving once again why he is the definition of a true staff ace. 🧱🔥

This one will be talked about for a very long time in San Francisco.

The Giants trailed 9-1 after seven innings at Oracle Park on Wednesday. They were 0-30 on the season when trailing after six innings. Washington's odds of winning the game reached 99.9% after one out in the eighth. This game was over. Everyone knew it.

And then Bryce Eldridge happened.

Matt Chapman and Rafael Devers hit back-to-back homers to ignite a five-run eighth inning. Chapman returned to the dugout and told manager Tony Vitello: "Stranger things have happened."

Five more runs in the ninth. Bases loaded. Two outs. Bryce Eldridge at the plate on a 2-0 count, and he crushed a walk-off grand slam off the top of the right-field wall to complete the most improbable comeback in Giants history since 1947.

The historic context is staggering:

🔹Only the second time in Giants history they've won when trailing by 8+ runs entering the eighth inning
🔹Only the sixth team to accomplish this in the Divisional Era since 1969
🔹Entering Wednesday, teams were 1-3,090 when trailing by 8+ runs after 7 innings over the last 20 seasons, the Giants just made it 2-3,090
🔹Bryce Eldridge became the youngest MLB player in history to hit a walk-off grand slam, and had tears in his eyes when he found out

"I want to be the face of this franchise, and that's something that motivates me every day. I want to be in that moment. I want to be that guy," Eldridge said. "Having that first big moment like that, it's very special."

The Giants are 28-41. They're not going to the playoffs. But on Wednesday afternoon at Oracle Park, they gave their fans one of the greatest moments in the history of this ballpark.

Bryce Eldridge said he wants to be the face of this franchise. After today? Nobody is arguing.
